If you’re a kwaito fan, be sure to tune in to Kwaai on e in the next four weeks. Hosted by popular kwaito star Arthur Mofokate, this four-part music special will be broadcast on e.tv at 8pm on Thursdays, from January 24.Kwaito, a form of mid-tempo dance music with chanted lyrics, has always been immensely popular in South Africa and is steadily gathering a huge following throughout the world. And as with all music genres, kwaito is not just about the tunes – it’s a way of life. Dance moves, fashion tips, star gossip and new slang are shared by followers at concerts and bashes as well as through television programmes like Kwaai on e.

Regarded as the ‘King of Kwaito’, Arthur Mafokate is the perfect host for this dynamic music special which boasts an in-depth expose on a uniquely South African genre.

Kwaai on e features performances by kwaito stars Mdu, Brothers of Peace (BOP), Thembi, All Stars, Trompies, Aba-Shante, Mandoza, Zola and Ishmael. Up-and-coming artists like Percy, Pantsula and Lira will also be given a chance to shine in the ‘Kwaai New Entry’ video insert.

Profiled artists will get the opportunity to express their opinion on the various diverse topics, while guest artists review the latest releases – an insert no kwaito show has ever featured before.

Episode one (January 24), focuses on the kings and queens of kwaito. In episode two, (January 31), Arthur speaks to journalists who hype the scene, but have also been criticised for dubious coverage and their frequent laments that “kwaito is dying”. Episode three, (February 7), looks at the process of choosing winners at the South African Music Awards and episode four (February 14) highlights recent kwaito SAMA winners.

For the viewers, there’s a chance to see themselves live on tv – at one of the flighted street bashes. And if they weren’t there, Kwaai on e’s gig guide will tell them exactly where the next party’s at.

Don’t miss out on this great entertainment!
