MR D.O.G.

Mr. D.O.G. aka Shon Peterson of Tacoma, Washington is well known throughout his state and region for his “Underwater flow” style of music, (as he calls it). His versatility and lyrical ability is reminiscent of E-40 mixed with Mr. Short Khop. He comes across like E-40 in the sense that he makes up his own dialect rapping fast and slow throughout his songs. The hardcore street clarity is similar to the cutting edge sound of Short Khop. It is truly a West Coast/Bay vibe that he brings in his ballads.

Mr. D.O.G. is an artist who believes that the best songs are the songs that you are educated on. That is his basis for dropping the shocking, yet truthful lyrics in each and every song he composes. He was quoted as saying, “I’m not saying I’ve committed every act in my songs or that I’ve actually been through everything in them. I just portray occurrences in my life and factual stories that were told to me by the people that experienced them.”

For example, in the song, “4 Da Homies,” he speaks on the death of the many he knew that played roles in his life. The song also leaves a positive message, “Killing another individual will not bring your friend back”. In “Perps” he describes people who smile in your face only to get close enough to hurt you and bring misery.

His sophomore LP, which features E-40, Ras Kass, Suga-T, and many other popular names from both the Bay and the NW is described by Eric Moreno of Illtip Magazine as, “Every track is head bangin’. The lyrics are off the scale and the total package is something to be adored.”

The success of his first 2 albums have led him to featuring on the cover of Profyle and Illtip magazine twice as well as appearances on over 13 other NW released albums including the “All or Nothing” Soundtrack. It has also increased his visibility via live shows which he usually does about 5-7 times per month throughout the Northwest region. (Most of those shows consist of opening for acts such as Kid Frost, W.C., Ruff Endz, Ludacris, E-40 & the Click, N2Deep, Ras Kass, Sir Mix-A-Lot, and the Luniz to name a few).

Now Mr. D.O.G. has released his first compilation which features the most active artists and producers in the Northwest. The single, “Take It Off,” has charted on several college stations and record pool charts nationally including a few major stations in Canada and Africa. It has also opened the door to Mr. D.O.G.’s first international show in Sydney, Australia which took place on December 9th, 2001. “Take It Off” has also made its way onto several mix CDs being sold up North.

“If Mr D.O.G. does not blow up soon then there is something wrong with the music industry” states AfricasGateway.com
“…..I’ll be damned if this cat isn’t putting it down for real out here.”..Dove of Rapsheet.com
“…The collaboration of E-40 & Mr. D.O.G. you could consider the equivalent of a West Coast Red & Meth., the way they toss it back and forth and stay consistent on content and topic is worth the listen.” Manhunt.com
