You heard him on Take It Off and I Put’s It Down. Now check out the interview we did with him last night.

Mac Money

How did you hook up with Bow Wow Records?

Me and Mr. D.O.G. have a history together. We played the game in different fields of life and crossed paths on this music. I did a song called “Hilltop Hooka” (an underground hit) with Big Squeeze. He heard it, felt it, and hit me up like, “Wussup? Come join the team. And there it was. We’ve been doing big things across the Pacific Northwest ever since.

Can you tell us a bit more about Mac Money, what would you want people to know about you?

I’m real people….aint nothing fake about me or what I’m rapping about. I’m a free Mason, and a Muslim. I’ve opened up for Mac Dre, B-Legit, Yukmouth, Kid Frost, Ruff Endz, Mr. D.O.G., and a host of others. I’m featured on several projects including the NW Ridin Compilation (Bow Wow), City of Dope 2000 (Brown Man Prods.), Guilty til Proven Innocent Compilation (2 Real), Ghetto Politics (Bow Wow), Da Morgue (MurderDog), and several mix CDs throughout the NW. I’ve toured throughout the NW and I’m eager to expand and share what I’m talking about to people across the world.

We thirsty after we heard I Put’s It Down, when is the album coming out?

I’m happy yall feeling my music. The album, Tales of a G, will be out midspring. I have a new single, “Just Dippin” that will be available in just a few short weeks. Just in time for our mini NW tour coming up in April.

You really freaked it on Take It Off, how long you been rapping?

I’ve been rapping since I was like 5 years old but I’ve been doing it professionally for about 2 1/2 years now. I just freaked my name to Mac Money and practiced getting better.

As far as hip hop goes, who influenced you and what artists do you think are hot at the moment?

I’m an 80’s kid. I came up bumpin Kool G Rap, K-Solo, Big Daddy Kane, and them real rappers that came from the streets with it. X-Clan, Zapp, George Clinton, Grandmaster Flash, Askari X, and Scarface. Artist that I feel are hot at the moment are Jayo Felony, Nas, Jay-Z, Eminem, Xzhibit, Tupac-(still), Yukmouth, and the Eastsiderz.

What are your thoughts on the global hip hop scene, have you heard stuff from Europe, Africa?

Truthfully, I haven’t heard any hip hop from Europe and most of the music that I’ve heard from Africa is not rap but more of the traditional and tribal music which I can dig. I’m trying to learn about it like I said, I’m still growing and hope to have a full understanding of this hip hop on a Global level, and maybe even contribute.

What frustrates you most about this music business?

The lack of support you get from club owners, music stores, down to the DJs that should spin everything local if it’s heat. Also, the fact that people are programmed to buy the mainstream, top 40, and those that they see on tv, but not willing to open their ears to people right there under their nose, in their community, who could bubble and one day give back to the same neighborhood. The NW already lacks exposure and it is a Gumbo pot of gifts and talent ready to bubble over out here.

What do you think you would be doing if you weren’t involved in Hip Hop?

I think I wouldn’t have a clear head or sense of balance. I’ve been through alot and when things get rough, I’m usually going out on a long road trip and that gives me time to sort through all the madness and when I get back home, I’m ready to handle whatever. I’d probably be making beats and preaching the truth.

We looking forward to the album, what can we expect from this record?

An in depth look at my life, past and present as well as insight to my feelings and beliefs on government, racism, religion, and street life. Reality rap at it’s best. A testimony in which a multitude of folks have endured. And a Bow Wow Collabo with Yukmouth.

Thanks for taking the time to talk to us, is there anything you’d like to say to the fans out there? Any shout outs?

Yeah, don’t sleep! My album will be the hottest Lp to bless shelves in any store this year. Real raps from a real soldier. 16 Blazin Tracks, brought to you by Washington’s #1 Label. All praise be due to Allah. Shots out to my label Bow Wow Records, Mr. D.O.G. & Big Squeeze. My kids, and my fans, I love you all.
