One of Washington’s dopest producers speaks to AfricasGateway. Peep it!

Big Squeeze

I gotta tell you I still can’t get over that beat you did for Take It Off. How long does it take for somebody to get to that level of making tracks that stand out like that?

Thanks. I’m glad yall feeling that track. Fo’sho’. I’ve been in the game since “89” and I’m still growing all the time. It takes some time to get real tight, so you have to always practice (If you wanna stay in the biz). But I was feeling that beat so I made it in like 15-20 minutes.

Why do they call you the Senator?

I’m the Senator because I’m sticking to the script and following suite with Ghetto Politics. I’m also on everyone’s joint, just like the government is in everyone’s pocket.

I checked that you releasing your album soon, who’s all gonna be featured on there and besides the production will we hear you grace the vocals?

Yeah, I’m gonna say a thing or two, but don’t expect to hear me rapping. I stick to what I’m good at, making beats. As far as features, Mr. D.O.G., Mac Money, Cool Nutz, Ballin Ass Dame, Shaolin (of Bullet & Shaolin) , Azarel, Mak Mahd (of Franchise), Kenny Mack, Playboy Bleek, Drin Vasco, and a few more which I want to hold back naming until the album is closer to being released.

What type of software/equipment are you using to make your beats?

I use the MPC 2000, Triton, and other sound modules. I record on Pro Tools, and in A-Dat format. That’s all I’ma give you. The rest is my lively hood. Gotta keep that on the tuck, ya dig.

Can you tell what an average day is for Big Squeeze?

An average day is getting woke up by D.O. before the roosters start crowing, getting in the studio, making a few beats, and recording several songs. Setting up appointments for other groups to get into the studio, spending time with my son and then discussing better moves for the label with my label mates. If I’m lucky, I get a few hours to myself, but I haven’t been lucky in a long time.

How did you hook up with D.O.G.?

Me & D.O. go way back to high school, and we been working together since BWR first started. It just took a few years before we signed that paper and made it official.

When it comes to production can you tell the readers out there why the sound coming from the NW, The Bay etc are extremely different from the shit coming out of New York?

Well basically, East Coast and West Coast are almost two different walks of life. They groove to different beats, use different slang, have a slightly different urban dress code, etc, etc. But we have cats that rap like that too out here. I make beats for those types of rappers too. I’m universal and can make a beat to please just about any rapper.

What producers are you taking note of right now?

Dr. Dre, Bosko, Timbaland, Big Hollis of Sacramento, Johnathon C., Torry Ward and my partna, Drin. I like too many to keep going.

Can you give tips for up and coming producers?

Yeah, don’t be afraid to be yourself when it comes to this music. Also get some decent equipment. If you want to make some heated beats, get the best products that you can afford, don’t settle for less.

If there’s one thing you want people to know about the Big Squeeze what would it be?

I’m ready for the Big Leagues and feel free to look me up. www.bwr2000.com

Thanks man we really appreciate your time, we looking forward to more tight beats and your upcoming album, any last words?

Yeah, learn about Washington’s #1 label, Bow Wow Records. Ya know! Cop all our products cuz they are heated. Especially my joint. If you want to get a sample of my music, go to www.mp3.com/big_squeeze and check out some of my blazing joint. Much love for having me in here, now go vote for the Senator!
