Da Interview….

I just love your track Natural Method, you also get some of my faves Sup and 586 up on there and the production is just nice man. So what is Clever MC all about?

“Word up on the track money! Sup, Peace, and bTwice are very close friends on mine and it was a blessing to have them feature with me. Their new material coming out if incredibly dope! Just a testament to their skills. CleverMC stands for Christ life 4 ever ministing Christ.” I’m about the upliftment of Christ through the medium of Hip hop. There is a Holy Hip hop movement that has been upon us for some time. Those of us blessed to hear the likes of Super C, LPG, Freedom of Soul, Dynamic Twins, first generation TunnelRats, and Idol Kings just to name a few at the time were listening to history in the making without even knowing it. They pioneered a gospel revolution in hip hop music which I believe God hand deliver to all of us. So CleverMC is down wit the movement, advancement of the art as well as the new delivery method God is using to reach the unsaved. Above all I’m minister! I will be attending Western Seminary to get a “Masters of Arts in Exegetical Theology” in order to teach biblical principles in our insititutions of higer learning. I’m a teacher and a apologist at the heart of all my rhymes. If you listen careful you can hear deeply ingrained theological truths in all my joints.

When can we expect an album and who’s gonna feature on there?

The album is actually aready out! You can order it on-line at: www.clevermc.com! It features Sup the Chemist, Peace 586, bTwice of the LA Symphony, Jendor the Praying Mantis, Rabb Chillin, Noah D, D Double, and my SUPER DOPE DJ… DJ SHEP! He was responsible for all the skratches and many of the live bass lines you here through the CD. He also inspired me to put out the skratch phrases for DJ’s out there. Our vinyl presently has sold out but I will be re-ordering another batch soon which will be available through Sup’s label Beesyde Records as well as on line at www.clevermc.com. The Dj’s really like the vinyl we put together and put in the mix frequently. I am currently working on my next project which I hope to get out by late 2003 called “Freedom Fighters.” Special guests should include: Sev Static of the TunnelRats, Macho of New Breed/TunnelRats, MarsIll, Izreal, and Rapphi of the TunnelRats!

Are you from LA? What’s the scene like there?

Actually, I’m from the Bay Area! The Silicon City a.k.a San Jose California! The scene here is pretty good! Lots of heads in the underground and of course were in touch and work close wit alot of our brother up in Oakland and San Francisco. Djin here is the best in the world thanks to cats like Qbert and his whole crew.

How would you describe your style and when you do a track what is it that you want to accomplish?

I rhyme relationships with Christ and others! I would like to say I have more of a Soulful rhythmic rhyme style. I want my music to move your soul!

You must have been at this quite a while since we can hear you not a new jack, so exactly how long you been involved in this and what artists influenced you?

Man… well it took me five years to put out “The Maze of life” and I spend another three years tying get my skills together. So I been at this for probably the last 8 years! The people who influence me we cats like Tribe Called Quest, the Native toungues, Diamond D, Boot Camp Click, Wu, Pharcyde, Alkohalics, Tawlib Kweli, The Roots, Common, Sup, LPG, Quazimoto, Blackolious, etc.. but man the cats who just doin it for me right now have to be Common, Talib, Mos, and the Roots. I just feelin them brothers right now and they speak knowledge. So as a lover of Truth and a seeker of wisdom I appericate what they are putting out. I don’t always agree with them but it okay to bring the balance. The people will choose for themselves what path they will take. My job is to lead them in the way of Jesus Christ because he is my way, truth and my life.

In terms of hip hop what artists are you feeling right now?

Have to say “The Roots, Mos, Talib Kwaili, Common, Pharoah Monche!

Any plans on coming to South Africa and checking out the scene?

I would love to just need the invitation!

What is the most frustrating thing for you right now?

Not enough cash to get the type of production I really want and need to enhance my message. To me I could really go to the next level if I grabbed beats from Hi Tek, Jay Dee, Organized Noise, Premiere, Soulaquariums, etc… Also not having enough time to really dedicate to get really doing this hip hop thang. It takes time and money and right now I’m limited on both.

So if people want to hear more of your music where do they go, any website?
