Mr Hype Williams!

The most influential music video director in music today must be Hype Williams. He has certainly changed the way we look at music videos today. He has also pretty much switched the game when it comes to the amount records companies spend on music video budgets. Palm Pictures releases a damn fine DVD for your collection so peep the review from our Mr Video Vibes himself Mr Ira Goldstein.

Ok besides Brett Ratner’s million dollar video for Wu-Tangs Triumph, Hype has made special effects and hot-ass video chicks (see hoes) a standard in the industry. Did you ever see that video he did for Busta and Janet? Well that was the previously dreadlocked dude’s work.

This DVD release features Hype’s ten favourites he has worked on. From the old to the new. Now you know to be sure that you will sell over a million units, you will need beats from DR. DRE, Timbaland and Neptunes and of course your video must be directed by Mr. Williams!

From the old to the new Hype has done ’em all. I was a surprised that Hype actually did Wu-Tang Clan’s Can It All Be So Simple which is the first video on the disc. Of the the ten videos on the disc my favourite must be Nas’ Street Dreams which is foshiggadizzle (with apologies to E-40). The colors Hype and his crew used to make this one similar to Casino, makes it one of my faves. Oh ja, Busta’s Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See and Jay Z’s Big Pimpin’ get honorable mentions. I’m sure you all saw Big Pimpin’. Now the bootie they assembled for that video was off the heezy.

Hype aslo delivers commentary on his videos and also explains to us how he comes up with most of his ideas for them. A video that made me choke was the Notorious BIG feature on the Flava In Ya Ear (Remix) by Craig Mack. Damn BIG was the shit! Oh and by the way Hype was also the one who instead of using black used white for his widescreen shots, ya know like the movies has black at the top and bottom of the screen? Well Hype introduced white. N ow everyone and they long last baby mama is using it.

Oh and another thing blame Hype for Puffy and Mase wearing them silver and shiny suits in there videos (ha ha ha). Well since people like DR. DRE and Timbaland charge R1,2 million a beat Hype can produce the goods when he charges R10 million for your budget for a music video.

I would say that this was quite an entertaining DVD. Get it!
