Paarl / Cape Town, 26 February 2003

Mothermix Distribution closed a distribution and retail deal with retail giant Pick ‘n Pay and music distributor Music For Pleasure (MFP). Mothermix Distribution is part of The Mothermix Group, including Mothermix Records, Mothermix Music Publishing and Mel.Vent Communications.

The deal sees KGB’s debut album “The First Born”, released on Mothermix Records, in Pick ‘n Pay Hypermarkets from March 2003, retailing for under R 50.

Alexander Gregori, CEO of The Mothermix Group, is ecstatic: “This is a great opportunity for us, being a small independent record label with a difference.”

Apart from selling good music, “The First Born” was nominated “Best Hip Hop Album of the Year” and already features two No 1 tracks, the “difference” of
Mothermix Records’ products is the price: Under R 50 for a full 15 track album with original hot off the press songs.

Says Pick ‘n Pay’s Braam van Wyk: “We obviously have to have very strict criteria when selecting CD’s for our stores. Apart from the excellent resume of KGB’s debut album it was really the price that caught our attention, so we’re giving this a try. Selling a full album on CD for under R 50 goes conform with Pick ‘n Pay’s slogan “We’re on Your side”.”

And MFP’s Jaun van Lingen adds: “We’re dealing with all record companies and 2002 was a great year for South African music sales. We’re excited to be
involved in this project, since a retail price of under R 50 for a CD is unheard off. We trust that Mothermix Records will really make an inroad here and offer us more good releases at this incredible price.”
