26 February 2003 No Comment

Progressive Soul vocalist, SOMI prepares to release her forthcoming independent debut album, “Eternal Motive”.

Scheduled for March 4th release. SOMI’s powerful debut album, “Eternal Motive” is an 11-song amalgamation of Soul and Jazz influenced songs immediately evoking pure emotion upon the first listen. A gifted vocalist notwithstanding, SOMI has assembled a team of talented and exceptional musicians to compliment her work. The album is co-produced by guitarist, David “Sampsonic” Sampson who has toured with the late Charles Earland and British soul sensation, Julie Dexter. Lonnie Plaxico, renowned bassist and former Musical Director for Cassandra Wilson, is featured on the set. Chris Robinson, having recently shared the stage with the legendary Stevie Wonder and Roberta Flack, mans the piano and keyboards. Accomplished saxophonist Isamu Sato, as well as percussionist, Shawn Banks also bless the project.

“The album’s title reflects the movement and momentum of my life’s journey towards my personal vision and destiny”, says SOMI. The sultry “Love Indigo” is a perfect introduction as she sets the tone for “Eternal Motive” which speaks volumes of passion, love, and beauty. “How Many Miles” is a drum and bass driven masterpiece guaranteed to move the body while mobilizing the spirit. “Memories of September” is an emotionally thought-provoking song as SOMI reminisces of her experience living in New York during the events of September 11, 2001.

In February 2002, SOMI performed on national television appearing on The Ananda Lewis Show as “one the most talented up-and-coming artists,” and again in May of 2002, when SOMI performed her original material on BET’s popular show 106 & Park. In June 2002, she reached greater accolades as she was invited to perform in New York City’s prestigious JVC Jazz Festival. Fall of 2002, SOMI toured the Midwest, with explosive performances at Chicago’s famed South Shore Jazz Festival and the city’s premiere live music venues like The Hot House. SOMI continues to perform live throughout the New York City area and abroad. SOMI has graced the stages of SOB’s, Irving Plaza, Izzy Bar, Shine, No Moore Lounge, Bliss Lounge, and Central Park’s Bandshell Concert Series.
