In Association with EARGASM PRODUCTIONS, SEEMLESS ENTERPRISES, DVSG & JUJU RECORDS THE MKONTO MOVEMENT presents @ Mega Music AD Newtown, Johannesburg on 29TH March 2003, a night that will mark the evolution of South African hip-hop.

The programme begins a two-year artistic exchange project between Eargasm and The Organisation for Collaborations between Swedish and South African independent hip-hop. The initial phase of this project being the IMBUMBA TOUR – S.A 2003, where the most progressive Swedish and South African hip-hop artists meet live on stage. Going down in all three major cities:
Durban, Cape Town and Johannesburg 14th through to 29th March 2003 respectively.

On the bill will be an all-star Swedish Line-up: LOOPTROOP & TIMBUKTU, and from Africa, signed to leading Swedish hip-hop label Juju Records,is the Zambian duo SPOTRUNNAZ and Zimbabwe reggae/afro-acoustic soul genius RANTOBOKO

The local element at the JOHANNESBURG leg of the tour features 5TH FLOOR, DOX and representing the Mkonto Movement an all star performance by SIYA AKA C.I.A. of Heads On The Rise, INCREDIBLE HULK (Alkabulani and Kaneef) of the Soulfire Town Sessions. A special treat for live hip-hop connoisseurs with an all star live backing band – KOI TRANS (featuring Izildo – Bass, Nallo =AD Lead guitar, Bheki – drums and Salik – keys) lacing hip-hop and Afro-funk flavours for the various MCs and poets.

To ice the cake we have a special guest performance by the amazing Dutch live hip-hop band RELAX, dropping-in straight after their North Sea Jazz festival performance.

In a nutshell – the show will be jam packed with mind blowing live PAS with enough variety to keep the crowed hype all night. On the flipside, the event will also feature some seriously dope DJs (BIONIC, C-LIVE & SWEDISH DJ – EMBEE) dropping everything from dancehall reggae to hip-hop and funk during live PA breaks and changeovers.

The objective of the 2-year exchange project is to establish an organised independent hip-hop industry in South Africa and to get acknowledgement that leads to new policies towards artists in South Africa, both from government and corporate businesses, also to get global recognition of African hip-hop
..
The second phase of the project will be the Swedish Leg of the Imbumba Tour where Southern African artists and production crew from SARA tour the entire Scandinavian region at three of the biggest festivals to take place in Norway, Sweden and Denmark in the summer of 2004.

Look out for the Imbumba Tour live in your area. Watch the media for more info and updates on the events. All proceeds from the event go towards the exchange and Mkonto Movements future projects.
