Check out this exclusive interview with Bushwick Bill. He has released countless classic albums with the Geto Boys and on the solo tip. Peep this rare treat! EXCLUSIVE!

First of all I want to thank you for taking the time to talk to us out here in South Africa. You may or may not be aware of this but the Geto Boys had made a huge impact on our local hip hop community. You are considered a legend amongst many. How are you doing these days?

Thank you for that, I’m humbled and honored. These days I’m doing well. I have a newborn daughter, and I’m CEO of a label called West Town Records in Memphis, TN. I have a great management team with BDK Management.

I’m a fan myself and have collected all the Geto Boys/Bushwick Bill/Willie D/Scarface albums over the years. Yet it seemed as if you were quite for a while. What was the reason for that?

Well after the goons beat me from Rap-a-lot in 1998 when I refused to sign with them, I was looking for a label. I found one in ’99 with Itchy Bon. I then put out the album No Surender No Retreat. While on tour, the company went bankrupt. In ’01, I signed with a label called Nu Wave Entertainment, and again while on tour, that company went bankrupt. So those two things may be a factor of why you haven’t heard from me in a while. Now I only put out music with companies own interest in, which are West Side Records and BDK Management.

I’ve been hearing people talking about a Geto Boys reunion. Will that happen and if so when?

Well we just came off a sixety-four city tour to promote the Geto Boys Greatest Hits album. Scarface, Willie D, and myself would like a reunion album, but it’s not up to us. If the power that be can get it together, and they get my fuckin money straight, then we’ll have it..

I cannot wait to get my hands on your new album! What can you tell us about it. Who does production and what can we expect from listening to this album?

Yes, the DSO album (Different Style Organizations) is one of the best works that my management team and I have put together. We have orders from Texas, all the way to England (UK). This album has every style of rap from your thug shit, to your love shit, to your political shit, to your gangsta shit, to your bling bling shit, to your playa shit, and Christian rap. Also there are a variety of producers on the track. I produce a couple of tracks. You have producers such as Tricksta and Late, that brings in the heat with the European flavor. You have also BDI that brings in the heat with the love shit. The title lives up to its name. Every song has a different style of rap so you will not get bored. We dropped the album on Feb 4th in Canada. We’re working with Linus Entertainment/Warner Music in Canada and in May it will drop in the U.S.

How does Bushwick Bill approach writing a song?

Man, all I do is, peep how fucked up the world is and try to educate people on what’s really goin on.

What does Bushwick Bill do in his spare time?

First and foremost, I love to spend time with my family, read books, and go to movies.

What’s the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?

The first thing I do in the morning is fall to my knees thanking him to live another day, because everyday above ground is a good day.

What are your favourite foods and drinks?

One of my favorite food is seafood gumbo which is a South Louisiana delicacy. I have to get it when I go to my managers restaurant (Papa’s Chicken Shack) in Lafayette, Louisiana. My favorite drink is a daquarie called the Mustang. It has Everclear190/gin/vodka which I get from my manager’s daiguirie shop (Shack Attack Daiquiris). This is the only drink that can put me to sleep. It really brings the heat.

Would you ever considering coming to South Africa to perform?

If you get a promoter that wants to bring me there, I’ll perform. I’ll also love to do features with your South African artists.

When was the last time you heard from Gangsta Nip and Big Mike?

It’s been over ten years since I’ve heard anything from Gangsta Nip and I haven’t anything from Big Mike sice he’s been in jail.

What was it like for you growing up?

It was fuckin tough, but my attitude was fuck the world! That’s when I got a chance to express myself through my music.

Besides hip hop/rap what else is there that interests you?

I like to draw and listen to country, jazz, and classical music.

How did you meet Scarface and Willie D?

Actually I was already with the Geto Boys as a hype man, then Jupe Box and Prince Johnny C quit the Geto Boys. And Little J made Scarface, myself, and Willie D the Geto Boys. That’s how we met.

What is the strangest weirdest thing you’ve ever experienced in this music industry?

There’s really no weird experience in the music industry, but personally it was shooting my eye out.

Here are some questions from other south african fans:

a) Why did you leave Rap A Lot /Geto Boys

Because Little J refused to pay my fuckin money!

b) What was your relationship like with J Prince?

There is no relationship.

c) What was your favourite Geto Boy’s album and song?

That’s really hard to say. It’s just like if you have kids, none of them are your favorite, you love all of them. All of the Geto Boys albums are dear to my heart.

d)  Is every single lyric in the song EVER SO CLEAR the truth? Did you really go through all of that or was it just creative expression?

Every word I have personally experienced and it is the truth.

I want to thank you very much for talking to us. You are a legend! Any last words or shout outs?

I’d like to give a shot out to my mom, dad, all six of my kids LOVE! The whole BDK management staff : Bryan, Kevin, Karen A.K.A. Baby Girl for being smooth and sexy in the video, Nate for directing the Do The Damn Thing Video, Danise, Kim, Curtis, all the artists on the DSO album, DSO, Faya, MVP, Camillion, EJ,MBA, Wolfe Town, BDI, Young Gotti, and Non-fiction.
