Kid Lucky

Kid Lucky is a beat-MC He has the unique ability to beatbox and speak in rhyme at the same time. Kid Lucky has been performing all over NYC and the US. since 1997 and has worked with numerous of vocalists. Kid Lucky combines beatboxing, spoken word, scatting and electric vocals for a one man show that is nothing less than stunning. In August of 2002 Kid Lucky founded the first production company to promote human beatboxing: Beatboxer Entertainment. The first show was produced by Kid Lucky and Brandon Emerick. It was called Beatboxing and The Art of Spoken Word. It was the first series of its kind ever created. It opened to rave reviews with the NY Daily news declaring the show as “The real beat generation!” Timeout NY called the beatboxers in the series “masters in the art of noise.” Doug E Fresh said “Kid Lucky is doing something I wish I would have thought of.” Kid Lucky has performed and worked with beatboxers such as Doug E Fresh, Ready Rock C, Kenny Muhammad, T aylor Mcferrin, Jase Mason, Eminon, D-Cross, MC Squared, Baba Israel, Wes Carrol, Stack, Akim Funk Buddha and more. Other vocalist he has worked with include Miles Griffith, Marya Lawrence, David Pleasant, Tonni Smith, M, Stephanie Mckay, Imani Uzuri, Marshell Jones, Piper Anderson to name a few. Spoken word artists he has collaborated with include The Last Poets, Stream of Conscious, Everton Sylvester, Mike Ladd, MC Beans, Jane Lecroy, Galinsky, Bob Holman, Paul Skiff, Tomosia, Mahogany Jones and others.

Baba Israel

Always looking to learn through collaboration, Baba has shared the stage with acts as diverse as Common, Mos Def, Outkast, Black Eyed Peas, Kool Keith, Jurassic 5, Afrika Bambatta, and Grand Wizard Theodore. In the last few months alone he has played more than 20 shows, including dates with Rahzel, Run DMC and Busta Rhymes. He spoke about the album “Mind Music” on NPR’s “All Things Considered”, was Òstung” by Method Man and Redman on MTV

Talylor Mcferrin

Taylor spent the first 13 years of his life in San Francisco, CA where he regularly attended his father’s (Mr. Bobby McFerrin) solo concerts. From these shows Taylor became fascinated with the possibility of making music without instruments. His passion for music began by imitating popular songs from the radio, and steadily increased upon hearing the Stevie Wonder album “Fulfillingness First Finale”. In high school Taylor began composing and producing music of his own. With the influence of his friend Tony Krawetz his interest changed from just soul and funk to Hip-Hop where he found inspiration in such groups as: The Roots, Tribe, and De La Soul. Taylor and other friends later formed the group “Delphi” originally “Yo Moma” During Taylor’s first two years of college at Eugene Lang College of the New School University, Taylor produced groups “Phokus and Clockwise” and “Dapp”. Grandfather Ridiculous is Taylor’s first at tempt at fronting a band, although his role isn’t so much that of a lyricist. His goal is just to be considered another instrument that adds to the Grandfather Ridiculous sound and to make great music

Jase Mason

Jay Borland known as Jase Mason on stage, is an accomplished up and coming beat boxer, DJ, and voice over talent who show by show is gaining eyes and ears in NYC and beyond. Haling from Philladelphia, Jay put in his time perfecting his skills on the one and twos at local raves and Hip-Hop events. His career led him to travel to Tennesee, Atlanta and eventually Brooklyn where he continued to spin his blend of drum and bass, hip-hop, world beats, and anything else he could scratch and mix into his head nodding sets. All the while, secretly practicing and perfecting his life-long obsession; beatboxing. It wasn’t until the year 2000 after completing Audio Engineering School at SAE, that Jay decided to move to New York and seriously persue his newly perfected beatboxing talents. His networking paid off when he met fellow active beatboxers who helped him get into shows and eventually land five jobs for Dominos where he starred in a Nation-wide radio campaign. To date, Jay has be en participating in performances at several venues in the New York area including Black Betty, Ludlow Bar, Uncle Mings, and CBGB Gallery. Along with guest appearances on UGTV, a locally broadcasted television show. In the future, Jase Mason will be featured in a DVD to be released by Beatboxer Entertainment.

Adam Matta

Adam Matta breaks barriers of sound and speed with his explosive vocal percussion. With drum kit, horn and bass sounds flying from his mouth, he weaves jazz, rock, drum n’ bass and funk styles in his improvisational presentations. Sometimes audiences are left searching the venue for the hidden drum machine since his beats are so pronounced and precise. Drum n’ bass tends to be the focus of his work, but he extends into various genres including hip-hop, be-bop, chant and hard core. He has collaborated with dancers and new sound/ fusion artists, including Faith Pilger, Akim Funk Buddha and Okkyung Lee. Some of his appearances include a residency at Tim’s Loft Sancocho,and a theatrical dance project with Faith Pilger at the Edinburgh Festival. He has performed in over thirty venues in Manhattan, Brooklyn and the Bronx. Mr. Matta has appeared doing beatbox on Mad Happy’s Feel Good Music for the Broke Middle Class, released on Bar None Records in 2002. He collabor ated with MF Willis on RJam, a 2002 trance-soul project in which he was sampled and mixed with Robert Johnson. He also was a co-creator of Musical Chairs, a 2001 collaborative sound installation driven by ideas of “journey.”

Shodekeh

Shodekeh, (pronounced Sho-dah-kay) which is an African name meaning a warrior and one who fights for what he believes in, has been beatboxing since the age of nine. He became a serious practitioner in the Fall of 1997 during his Freshman year at Penn State University. In the Fall of 2001 he joined the Penn State Acapella group, “None of the Above”. He became the first member to focus soley on providing the vocal percussion for Penn State’s oldest, co-ed, acapella ensemble. In January of 2002, Shodekeh went on to form Penn State’s first human beatbox crew, “Larynx” with Other beatboxers of the crew included. Since his first year of becoming a serious practitioner of the human beatbox, Shodekeh has performed at a number of schools including Penn State University, Oberlin College, Elizabethtown College, Coppin State College, Bucknell University, Johns Hopkins University, American University, The University of Rochester, and The University of Pittsburgh. He has also peformed at the International Championship of Collegiate Acapella, The Debra Duncan Show on ABC, Channel 13 in Houston, Texas, and The 13th Floor in Baltimore, Maryland. Shodekeh has also opened up for The Former President of the United States Bill Clinton with The Coppin State Choir, The Mountain Brothers, Nelly, Kuttin Kandi and Roli Rho of The 5th Platoon, Louis Logic, Mos Def, and comedian Gerald Kelly. 

Johnny

Hailing from the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Johny has always been a practitioner of the arts. He entered and won his first artist competition at the age of 10, which gave him the drive and confidence to continue drawing, writing and performing. At the age of 15, he became a member of the dance troop known as Spoil Brattz, who went on to win several national competitions which lead to opening performances for internationally known artists Boyz II Men, Shabba Ranks, TLC, and Queen Latifah amoung others. After completing high school at Queen’s Royal College in 1993, he along with his nuclear family migrated to the United States. Johny entered Brooklyn’s Pratt Institute in the Spring of 1994 when Second2Last adopted its name. His first public event in the United States was an open mic (produced by Second2Last), where he mesmerized the crowd with his accent in grievance of experiencing snow for the first time. When Second2Last entered into the profressional performance ar ena, circa 1997, they inducted vocal percussion into their presentation. Johny currently commands the drums/rhythm section. He is a Roots Child. His poetry exhibits a lyrical sense more popularly known as Dub Poetry. Six years later, he has performed on three continents, completed his degree in Architecture, practices as an Estimator / Draftsman at a construction company, designs furniture, produces art and – as the point man for his group – continues performing with, and promoting Second2Last effortlessly, a talent in his own right.
