Coming all the way from San Franciso this rap trio recently released their album “Albino Gorillaz” on Buy Mai Records. Last week we briefly spoke to them about their past, future and current dealings. Peep it.

What’s up how you doing?

(Mighty Mike) We doing good, staying busy..

For those who don’t know who is Keltic Tribe?

(Jimmy the Butcher) Keltic Tribe is three motivatived individuals doing it in this independent rap game..

Where are you guys from?

(Slops Conley) Man we from the city by tha Bay homie. (San Francisco)

Your album “Albino Gorillaz” isn’t your first one, how many have you released and how long did it take you to get into this biz?

(Jimmy the Butcher) Well, we’ve been doing this officially since 97. Came out the trunk with “Destiny’s Testing Me” and made a name for ourselves. So far we put out three albums.

How did you get involved with hip hop, what is it that influenced you?

(Slops Conley) We was born and bread on this shit.
(Jimmy the Butcher) It was our form of expression. When we was in high school half the class was spittin raps. I felt Iike we could do it better..

What can you tell us about Buy Mai Records?

(Mighty Mike) We started the label after we recorded our first album, created a buzz, jumped on a gang of albums and comps and took it from there..

Would you define your music as gangsta rap?

(Slops Conley) Fuck naw! We call this street hop.

What kind of production are you feeling and which producers do you like and why?

(Mighy Mike) I’m diggin Ric Roc’s beats. I think that cat got skills.
(Slops Conley) I think the Neptune’s and Dr Dre got it locked..
(Jimmy the Butcher) As far as the Bay Im diggin Mike Mosley and Sean T.

Tell us about “Albino Gorillaz”, what was it like recording that album?

(Mighty Mike) It was cool recording the album, but it took it a minute to release. We had to shop for a distribution deal, and ended up fucking with City Hall.
(Jimmy the Butcher) For me working with San Quinn was cool. He was a major influence on me.
(Slops Conley) It was the shit, anytime you can create new music, thats what I’m in this for.

What is the first thing that comes to your mind when I say South Africa?

(Slops Conley) Zebras..LOL
(Jimmy the Butcher) The rumble in the jungle wit Ali and Foreman.
(Mighty Mike) Nelson Mandela.

Do you tour?

(Jimmy the Buther) Yeah we toured in Texas, Nevada and Northern Cali..

What are your favourite drinks and foods?

(Slops Conley) My favorite drank is Rona’s and weed brownies.
(Mighty Mike) Moutain Dew and spagetti
(Jimmy the Butcher) Red Bull and Fast Food.

I must say that “Eye Ballin” is a fat track, man, do you ever have situations when people drive past and they playing your music, what’s that feel like?

(Mighty Mike) The first time I heard us, was at home wit my screen door open. A car passed bumpen “Money Gone” It was the best feeling in the world dawg.
(Jimmy the Butcher) I heard the song we did for the Ryda Thugz Compilation two days after it dropped. This cat was poundin out while passing me. I didn’t know what to do.
(Slops Conley) I haven’t had the opportunity yet.

Do you ever have beef with other artists, have you ever had bad situations?

(Keltic Tribe) NOT YET!

On the track “1980’s” you took a look at the past, am I right in assuming that you into the old skool?

(Slops Conley) Without a doubt homie. You have to mix the past and the present along with goin futuristic on dat ass. (Mighty Mike) We came up with that subject when we were stoned and reminising.

What does Keltic Tribe want to achieve in the next 5 years?

(Jimmy the Butcher) Ta quit my day job.
(Mighty Mike) I would have to say for Buymai Records to land a major deal.
(Slops Conley) Platinum plus, “but I’d take a gold single.”

What was it like for you growing up, would you say that the track “Long Road” is an accurate picture?

(Slops Conley) Dead on the money.
(Mighty Mike) Word for word that’s the realest shit we ever wrote.
(Jimmy the Butcher) Aint that the truth.

When is the next album coming out?

(Mighty Mike) Hopefully by Sept. 2003.

(Mighty Mike) It’s good we keep gettin calls for features so that gotta mean something.

Tell us something about Keltic Tribe that we don’t know.

(Slops Conley) That we have a recurring reefer problem.
