The much anticipated ‘Tumi and the Volume – Live at the Bassline’ is to be released through independent label Ready Rolled Records in the first week of August. The debut album from one of the country’s most acclaimed hip-hop outfits promises the listener a glimpse into the band’s dynamic live performances and includes all of the crowd favourites including: People, People; Never Deny You; 76 (featuring Pebbles); 4 (featuring Marcus Wyatt) and People of the Light (featuring Pebbles).

Tumi Molekane is a speaker of fancy, the vanguard clairvoyant, one of South Africa’s brightest up and coming wordsmiths. He is an honest poet, an intuitive writer and responsible MC. This spitkicker has done countless work on the Jo’burg hip-hop scene, most notably the Dead Prez show in the spring of 2000, and the Black August tour to South Africa the following year, which featured Talib Kweli and Black Thought of The Roots. He has shared the stage with SA’s premier talent, such as Blk Sonshine, Bra Willie Kgositsile, Max Normal, Lesego Rampolokeng, and international talent such as Saul Williams, Sarah Jones and Mutaburuka. The concept band, the Volume, is a creative synergy between Tumi, Tiago, Paulo, Dave and Kyla.

Tiago and Paulo form the other half of dubrockjazzhiphopelectricfunk group 340ml, one of the freshest sounds in SA at the moment. Comprising Tiago C Paulo (lead guitar), Paulo Chibanga (drums), Dave Bergman (bass), and Kyla Rose Smith (violin).

The result is a sound that lingers over lines of new-school hip-hop, beat poetry and funked-up jazz, which is sure to set a new standard to be followed in national line-ups.
