D-Styles, aka Dave Cuasito, was born on July 6, 1972 in the Philippines and raised in the Bay Area of California. He came across “scratching” in 1984 on his dad’s home stereo. Armed with his first Radio Shack-brand mixer and one turntable, D-Styles was motivated by such music as Malcolm McClaren’s “Buffalo Gals,” Herbie Hancock’s “Rockit,” and Run-DMC’s album Raising Hell.

“Dub-L’s In Town” was produced, written, recorded and performed by a young gentleman by the name of Dub-L. Manhattan born circa 1977, dub-L was surrounded by the urban environment of the Lower East Side. By the age of 19 he was signed to Profile/Smile Records as a producer and artist.

I can still remember when Nas made his first appearance on a track called “Live At The Barbecue” by Main Source. 1994 he dropped Illmatic on us. This album brought Nas to the forefront of the hip hop game. We fast forward to 2003 almost ten years after dropping that influential album as he decides to drop in for a live performance. Not in New York or London but via a new video format that was labeled digital video disk aka DVD. For us that were not fortunate enough to be at the event we have to settle for the DVD until Sony brings Nas out to South Africa.

Spex was born Vongani Rikhotso in the dusty township of Diepkloof, Soweto. He picked up his love for hip-hop while in late- primary school where, to his peers’ bewilderment, he would say the raps he had memorised. This was 1988, in a township school nogal.
