14 September 2003 No Comment

Giving respect to the legend. If you’ve ever seen this guy live then you will know why. Richard Quitevis, better known as DJ Qbert to fans throughout the world, has attracted attention since 1985 when audiences realized his skills on the turntables were beyond comprehension.

Through years of creating, practice and dedication, he developed the art of using the turntable as a musical instrument by inventing styles and creating unique systems of skratching. Today, turntablism continues to advance and diversify. History has established that Qbert, formerly a member of the legendary Invisibl Skratch Piklz (ISP), heralded a new era in the DJ/turntablist community, and helped raise the art to its new form.

In the early ’90s, QBert dominated the DJ scene with his talent and skills. After claiming the titles of the DMC 1991 West Coast and USA Champion, 1992 DMC USA and World Champion, 1993-1994 DMC World Champion he was asked by the DMC founders to judge the 1995 DMC Championships instead of competing. In June 1998, QBert, along with ISP member MixMaster Mike, received the DMC DJ Hall of Fame award for outstanding contributions to the competition and more importantly, the industry.

Since, Qbert has garnered worldwide attention from live performances, record, cd and dvd releases under the Thud Rumble imprint, as well as appearing in films, commercials and scoring game soundtracks and the soundtrack for his own animated motion picture release, “Wave Twisters – The Movie”. His legendary solo improvisations create songs through breaking all types of musical instruments into intricate symbols and this is why he is widely considered the greatest DJ/turntablist in the world.
