One of South Africa’s newest hip-hop and Kwaito group’s Gunpowda have introduced themselves with a ten-track debut album, Paychek’s that has a brand of refreshing pop sounds. Their street-wise and tightly arranged album has an equal balance of dance and slow jamming tunes for the young at heart. On the album Gunpowda worked with different producers including experienced and well known artists such as Amu and Kaybee

Everytime I jet into Johannesburg I tune into YFM, because besides Bush Radio, this happens to be the only decent radio station that gives local hip hop acts a chance to show what they made of. I caught up with her today just as she was about to leave for London. We speak about her intro to Radio, her love for hip hop and she tells us how to get your tracks on the show. Check it.

Afrikaans Hip Hop group Kallitz (pronounced “Coloureds”) will be releasing their album in December 2003 on Mothermix Records. In order to find out more about this group I spoke to the man behind this group. His name is Dokter, the beatmaker and the producer. You might have seen them perform at the Hip Hop Indaba recently so peep it.

I’m thinking Shoalin now. Crazy futuristic ish that’s what’s included in the package of beat meastro Dj Krush. It seems as if the djing aspect of the art commonly refered to as hip hop is very and I mean very popular in the far south, who can forget that legendary track that featured Canadian singer Esthero? Man that ish is so smooth. I know it got ya more open than the Blackmoon track off the Enta Da Stage album. I just peeped out his brand new album called “The Message At The Depth”. It got me in a state of insomnia after listening to it. The album goes into highs and brings it back down to the level of the equator. Dear Goddess I bring this breakbeat just for you as a offering. Ohm.
