Born in Mexico City, Mexico, DJ A-Beats has been a music lover since his birth. Inspired by his parents love of music A-Beats experimented with many genres of music he found his true love, Hip Hop. “I remember when I first moved to the US, there were so many different types of music. I really got into Michael Jackson, Guns N Roses, Red Hot Chilli Peppers etc… Then my brother started coming home with NWA, Ice Cube, Run DMC, Slick Rick and I was hooked.” He began to learn more about hip hop culture and eventually embraced it as his own.

A-Beats decided to take hip hop to the next level and began to DJ in the summer of 2000. He soon earned a spot at the college radio station for James Madison University, WXJM 88.7 FM. At WXJM A-Beats began to hone his skills and bean to create a name for himself. He teamed up with his beat friend, The Polostinian and together they created “Primary Education”. It aired every Tuesday night from 10-12pm for three years, creating a huge buzz in the town of Harrisonburg, Virginia.

Shortly after joining WXJM A-Beats became the Urban Music Director in January 2001. As the Urban MD for WXJM A-Beats became a reporter to major college publications (Urban Network, Rapattacklives.com, CMJ, Rapnetwork.com, Insomniac and Behind The Scenes). He maintained the Urban MD position until he graduated in August 2003.

Recently A-Beats has gained nationwide recognition for his mixes and is one of the up and comers in the mixtape game. Most notably A-Beats was recently nominated at Justo’s 8th Annual Mixtape Awards for Best Mixtape Duo (DJ A-Beats and Double J Present: From 1 Generation 2 The Next). Some of the most renowned mixtape journalists have been praising his latest mixes.

A-Beats is still holding down college radio at WGMU 88.1 FM, George Manson University. He also reports to Rapattacklives.com, Rapnetwork.com and Insomniac Magazine.

2004 will be a big year for A-Beats as he will continue to release quality mixtapes, break new artists and never cease to be the ear of the street in College Radio.
