What’s up – Hip Hop back in the city, where? At 115 ANDERSON STREET. Who? – HeavyLoaded. How? Q’s, Bravestar, Township Frequency, Robo, Karl Kani, Homebru, Le Club, DJ Blaze, Shorty Skills, Dj Bigga, Loco, MetamorForces, Metroplis, Data Base and DJ Bionic. If you’re wondering what these words mean, those who know will definitely agree that such names are actually hip hop brands that represent the most vibrant era of South African hip hop.

It was during the period 1993-1997 that J-section was notorious for promoting underground hip hop culture, attracting thousands of headz, some of whom grew up to be groundbreakers not only within the hip hop industry, but also the urban youth/street culture. Ten years into democracy the city of Jozi appears to have lost the edge of being a converging point for the growth and appreciation of hip hop. Various attempts have been made to bring back the vibe that elevated the status of hip hop, but none of them seemed to project the ability to endure the strangulation that the culture has suffered within the CBD. It was this realization that propelled the HEAVYLOADED collective to take up the challenge of bringing hip hop back into the CITY, this time on a much more mature and consistent tip. From the 1st of July 2004 we plan to host exclusive hip hop sessions that will promote the culture in its entirety. The sessions will happen every Thursday at @115 Anderson Street, featuring most of the most gifted, respected, and rawest mc’s, beatmakers, dj’s, slam poets, b-boys and beat-boxers in the line up. It’s On
