Urban Voices International Spoken Word Festival

Once again Urban Voices produces a fantastic line-up of award winning overseas and homegrown poets including the likes of Linton Kwesi Johnson from Jamaica, popularly known as LKJ, reggaes foremost poet. On the line-up from the US, is Jessica Care Moore, an award winning poet, actor, recording artist musician and publisher who tours extensively. She has featured on Def Poetry Jam and has been the first poet ever to win the Apollo Showtime in New York, winning it five consecutive times with her powerful lyrics and is recognized as an Apollo Legend. As a publisher, Jessica Care Moores’ company has also published the first groundbreaking works of Saul Williams. Also from the US, is Toni Blackman, an acclaimed hip hop poet, scholar and an accomplished freestyler .South African poets include an extensive range of poets including the “Bard” of the Liberation Movement, Don Mattera, Kgafela Magogodi , Prof Keorapetse Kgositsile, Lesego Rampolokeng, Maakomele Manaka, Zee and many others
