Urban youth Urban truth – A Baobab Slam
Tags: South Africa
During the month of December 2004 Baobabconnections is inviting all young poets, rappers and lyrical wizards to make their voices heard at our 1st online HIP-HOP SLAM! You can win 1000 Euros. Read on for more info…
Our theme is URBAN YOUTH – URBAN TRUTH: Safer Cities through Youth Development and Participation.
Some questions to talk about:
What is life like for you, young people, in city centres?
Are you safe? What is your dream for the future?
Do you see a future? Do you have any thoughts on the city politics?
Have opportunities really changed for women?
What can youth do to make a difference?
These are just some ideas. You can write a rap/poem on just about any topic as it relates to YOUR life in the city centre!
Send the rap/poem to slam@baobabconnections.org before the end of each week in December and you could win 1000 Euros! This means 4 weekends in 1 month: 4 opportunities to mail your lyrical insights, 4 chances to make that winning masterpiece of rap/poem!
All you have to do is write about 20 lines (or so) per week and send them to slam@baobabconnections.org no later than midnight Friday of each week.
See Grandmaster Flash’s – ‘The Message’ for inspiration.
