Born and raised in Geneva, Switzerland with parents who are natives of India, DJ L borne Lohrasp Kansara migrated to the US on an International Basketball Scholarship to one of New York’s most prestigious High Schools…

Arriving to Spring Valley, NY, he then began to hone his DJ’ing skills when he wasn’t in the books or on the court.

Acknowledging music as his 2nd love to basketball, DJ L turned to music full time after college. “While attending SUNY Purchase College in Upstate New York, I used to DJ for the majority of my school’s parties on and off the college campus”, says DJ L who now runs his own business fulltime with partners, Ace, Nomad and Dred via Open Lock Entertainment.

Identifying consistency and exclusivity as the key to success in this game, DJ L has managed to put out an average of 52 mixtapes per year for the past two years. “Obtaining new music first is very important in this industry. It’s big to get someone’s song prior to an artist (s) album release.” says DJ L.

In 2003, his consistency paid off when he was crowned as the Justo Mixtape Rookie of the Year during his first year as a Mixtape DJ. Dropping two (2) mixtapes every 10-14 days, one of them has always been categorized as a “Best of CD” and the other as an exclusive “Hip Hop, R&B CD. Along with Partner DJ Dred, the two drop a mix Reggae CD four times a year (one every three months)”. Artists such as Jimmy Jones, Memphis Bleek, The Lox, Wyclef, Busta Rhymes, Remy Martin, Prodigy, and Kanye West, and more have hosted his mix tapes.

“This year I’m hoping to get “Best Duo” since DJ Suss One and I have put out the most mixtapes together”, says DJ L. With his mixtapes now distributed throughout New York city’s five boroughs, New Jersey, Connecticut, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, Canada, Chicago, London, Nigeria, and Switzerland it will come as no surprise that this young DJ will be a driving force in the mixtape world for quite some time.

DJ L has been featured in magazines such as VIBE, Don Diva, BLOW, Street MOS, Tableist and more. And he is additionally also one of Violator Management’s All Star DJ’s.

In the near future, DL L hopes to be signed as an Artist to a major label. He currently resides in the Bronx and plans to begin acting classes in this Fall.
