First There Was Girl Power and Now There’s Phalon

Winner of the Nationwide Urban Idol Search Competition and Critically Acclaimed Crown Princess of 2Step-Hip Hop Releases Her Debut Single – Man Dem…

The song is a half-time-hip hop track, befitting of only a lyricist as good as herself. Anyone else might not have been able to pull it off in such an enjoyable manner. Although much younger than most of the artistes that she puts to shame during her much-talked-about PA’s around the London area, Phalon, shows a very mature edge to her street persona and to some, an ‘unbelievable’ measure of determination for her age – she is just 17-years-old!.

“A long time ago, I learnt that once you are determined to do something and you’re in the right frame of mind, you can do it. I was determined to win Urban Idol and I did. It is all about being focused.

“In many indirect ways Man Dem touches on this subject in a way a lot of young people like me can understand. Men come and go; that’s a fact of life. Not everyone that says ‘I love you’ really means it. And then again love means different things to different people. The only thing is that these days, with lots of music videos, we (ladies/girls) are made to look a bit cheap – and I don’t like that! I’m here to change the game, flip-the-script as they say, and I will.”

Phalon was ‘baptised by the streets’, in testimony to her charismatic verbal flow. Her delivery was so different and permeating that whenever she performed around London, crowds would go wild and begin chanting Lyrical, Lyrical, Lyrical, most notably at the recent Roc-A-Fella Urban Music Seminar; impressing the Roc’s chief honcho, Damon Dash. In fact the street recognition of the name ‘Lyrical’ became so intense, that at one point she considered changing her name; after the street success culminated in her winning the Urban Idol title! But on the streets of London she is known as the ‘Princess of 2Step-Hip Hop’, a title she believes she deserves, although she’d never admit it publicly.

Like an arsonist granted an unlimited supply of petrol and endless lighting equipment, Phalon aka ‘Lyrical’, is a young lady on a mission to take over the UK’s music scene and she’s neither taking hostages nor pulling punches. According to Charlie, the Director of urban television station Channel U: “Her stage presence is amazing and she is one of the best potential urban artists I have seen all year.”

According to the New Nation newspaper: “Wherever this hot British MC goes, she is bound to tear down the place.”
