Shall we Dance – Review

30 April 2005 No Comment

Due to some inside info by my boy “Punjabi Goth” I have come to learn that “Shall We dance” is actually a remake of a Japanese movie that was released roundabout 98/99.The movie is based on the character John Clark played by Richard Gere who is a Chicago lawyer with a monotonous lifestyle that is played over everyday.

While traveling home on the train, John on more than one occasion sees Paulina played by Jennifer Lopez staring out the window of a danceschool . He decides one day to stop his daily commute and attend a dance class in hopes of meeting Paulina . Although she lets him know straight away that she is not interested in any romantic intentions John has toward her she forms a special bond with him whilst training him for an upcoming dance competition. Through all this John decides not to tell his wife Beverley Clark played by Susan Sarandon about his newfound interest. She becomes suspicious about all the time he spends away from home and hires a private investigator to findout whether John is having an affair.

When I walked into the theatre I was not expecting much from this movie but I found myself enjoying it quite a bit . It is classed as a Romantic drama which it is but I put comedy next to it in brackets because there were some quite hilarious parts. Another part of the movie I liked is that there were many characters but each one was rounded off well so it didn’t leave me wondering what happened to this person while everybody elses life went on.

Altogether this aint a bad movie but its not something that I would go out of my way to go and see , but that’s probably because it aint my style. Worth a watch .
