Too Stoned For TV

21 July 2005 No Comment

What goes better with hip-hop than weed smoke? Not much. A drink, possibly. International travel, explosive live shows, candid interviews? All the above actually, which seminal Brooklyn-based label Nature Sounds has compiled here. In globe trotting escapades with some of contemporary indie-hip-hop’s brightest stars, the camera literally goes where the blunt goes…

Based in streets, studios and stages of New York, peep how candid moments with the whole Boot Camp Clik in the lab can translate to timeless live-stage performances, as Black Moon and Smif N’ Wessun drop gems both for the camera as well as in front of a packed-crowd(rocking smoked-out classics like “Bucktown” and “Enta Da Stage”). Catch the rare glimpse of the ever-elusive Masta Killa’s rock at last year’s Rocksteady Anniversary, only to be coupled by crucial appearances from RZA, GZA and Raekwon at the T.H.C. album release party!

Peep exclusive footage of Wu-Tang Dj/producer Mathematics creating heaters with L.A. up and comers Strong Arm at the famed 36 Chambers Studios (40’s of Old Gold included).
Afu Ra admitting to once smoking 20 blunts a day, chokes up with a glass chalice, but bombs the stage like he’d just descended from Rap heaven. In similar vein, while not visually smoked out, Non Phixion blazes through a frantic crowd of fans at NYC staple SOB’s. Top that with an unseen MF Doom video for “My Favorite Ladies” (his own subliminal ode to likeminded intoxicants), and you’ve got more treats than a headshop in the Red Light District.

Shoot to Amsterdam and witness mouth-watering Ganja taste tests with the likes of High N’ Mighty & Cage, Likwit Crew’s Defari and Wu-Affiliate Timbo King at the Cannibis Cup.
Only to then hop on stage and tear a standin-room-only house down. So much so (blazed), a femur-sized spliff leaves Defari irie enough to perform a track sitting down.
Now, that’s gangsta.

Even better, as this DVD is companioned by a 9 track mini-album featuring much of the video’s roster from MF Doom (“Special Ladies remix”) to High N’ Mighty (“Last To Laugh”) to Timbo King & Masta Killa (“Armored Truck”), not to mention exclusives fro Mathematics feat. Wu Tang Clan, The Pharcyde, Boot Camp Clik, & Smut Peddlers.

From NYC to Amsterdam to your land, whether you smoke, toke or just watch your folks do so, this DVD is an easy companion for any of those higher experiences. Hip-Hop heads to pot-heads, Nature Sounds debut DVD makes for not only a good collectors piece but a ripe party-starter.
