This is a street Hip-Hop compilation project aimed at providing a platform for independent Rap artists and producers to be heard. Formed in 2004, BLACKMIST is a crew of dissenting Hip Hop powerbrokers on the rise. Our mission is to challenge the negative stereotypes associated with street culture through a comprehensive and powerful display of our artform. Based in Cape Town, BLACKMIST addresses the dire lack of media interest and attention in what is seen by its followers as a refined, high quality and important form of expression…

‘Drudge’ represents the archetypal blue collar underground labourer, such as mineworkers, whose hard work has previously been overlooked and never sufficiently rewarded. ‘Dialect’ symbolises his long- overdue sermon, and what immediately stands out is the distinguishably crafted and elaborate manner in which it is delivered.

Drudge Dialect Volume 1 is a collaborative effort where all artists and producers involved provided creative input. The production team consists of Dplanet, DJ Nastie Ed, Brand Lelakabe, Mpumito Bomvino and features notable contributions from Ootz the Afronaut, Saturn and DJ Hamma. On the artist line-up is: BLKMST FXN, Writers Block, Archetypes, Ben Sharpa, tha Hymphatic Thabs, King Daniel, Snazz the Dictator, Subzero, Middle Finga and Rattex.

A promotional 6-track precursor is already causing dissent on the streets. It heralds the arrival of the full 17-track mixtape which drops in November 2005. Heads all around Mzansi are sure to be mad impressed with the lyrical content and production quality achieved by this contentious schism of independent cats through their underground networks.
