2 on 2 B-boy Battle

As we celebrate more than 23 years of hip hop in South Africa it’s evident the profound effect it has had on society and the youth especially on the Cape Flats. Groups like Godessa, B.V.K, Black Noise and Prophets of the City has played an instrumental role in promoting hip hop in South Africa and on a global scale.South Africa has enjoyed numerous success on the international arena especially where the b.boy or breakdancing scene are concerned. A group of dancers out from the Cape Flats, that represented South Africa, recently placed first in a breakdance competition hosted in France. Thanks to events like Hip Hop Indaba and Battle of the Year, dancers has had an opportunity to showcase their skill internationally with the opportunity to represent their country and communities.

On 22 July 2006, Cape Town will experience one of South Africa’s most successful breakdance competitions, 2on2 running successfully in it’s fourth year.

DJ Switch and Wokes has successfully run 2on2 BBoy battles nationally with partner’s YO-TV. This 2on2 battles where so successful that it has been incorporated into YO TV’s annual 26 episode talent search Quest for Fame.

The 2on2 Battles have also been hosted by largely recognized Expos such as the Rand Easter Show three years in a row and LG Expo in Johannesburg twice in row as well as the national X Stream sports event The Alex Groll Cup in Cape Town 2005. Due to its success and popularity, the 2on2 Battles have attracted sponsors to the competition, include; Playstation, PUMA, Red bull and Swatch.

The event also has the Cape Flats Beat Bangaz (Ready D, DJ Azuhl, Shamiel X, DJ E-20) manning the turntables and the crowd in attendance can expect free goodies from the event’s sponsors.
