Heineken, 5fm and BIG Concerts recently announced that Hip-Hop heavyweight Jay-Z, and Caribbean Queen, Rihanna, will be visiting South Africa in October, for a 3-date tour which will see them performing in Cape Town on the 11 th, in Durban on the 13th, and finally in Johannesburg on the 14th. And now, they are thrilled to reveal that Jay-Z and Rihanna will be supported throughout the tour by one of SA’s biggest Kwaito superstars – Kabelo.

Ever since emerging as a member of Black Star in the late 1990s, Talib Kweli is one of the few artists making commercially viable music that matters. The Brooklyn bred rapper's hard-hitting music has been able to educate and entertain simultaneously. So it is no wonder that at the peak of their fame, both Jay-Z and 50 Cent named Talib Kweli as one of their favorite rappers. With Ear Drum, his first album released on his own Blacksmith Music and his sixth album overall, Kweli has delivered his career-defining work, a polished collection showcasing his advanced lyricism and his penchant for picking music that resonates long after the song ends. “The image of the ear and of the drum are powerful enough by themselves, but when you put them together, it's an instrument that's in your body that helps you hear,” he explains.

Just what you’ve been waiting for! This is an invitation to all South African Hip Hop Crews to register with Bradlox- bradlox@gmail.com to take part in a competition, whereby a crew will be picked by judges to represent the S.A. Independent Hip Hop Movement in Copenhagen, Denmark. Crews have till the end of September to register and can e-mail their bio’s. The Event will subsequently take place at Lepht on the 6th of October. Crews will be given 15 minutes performance time and the Winning Crew will be announced that night and will be leaving South Africa on the 6th of November. Don’t sleep on this.

October 8th marks a coming of age for African Hip Hop. Afrolution Records, the London based African Hip Hop label is bringing together some of the biggest names in African Hip Hop in a festival that will showcase some of the cream in this genre. Afrolution are well know for their ground breaking compilation release “Afrolution Vol 1 – The Original African Hip Hop Collection” which was the first compilation of its kind in the world to represent both francophone and anglophone African countries.
