My Super Ex-Girlfriend Movie Review

16 September 2006 No Comment

Matt Saunders (Luke Wilson) meets Jenny Johnson (Uma Thurman) alias G Girl and they date. She turns out to be needy, jealous and controlling. He dumps her. This proves to be a very bad idea on his part as no one wants a stalker with super powers.

Ivan Reitman best known for Ghostbusters always has a strange take on comedies. They always have a science-fiction or supernatural twist. In the case of MY SUPER EX-GIRLFRIEND you have a romantic comedy with a super hero angle.

MY SUPER EX-GIRLFRIEND has great performances from the actors, an interesting story, funny use of really good special effects that are used well however it just feels like the movie is a one trick pony and the gimmick wears thin halfway through the movie. Thankfully it has many other things to fall back on like the supporting cast who all seem to be comic performers and the leads who are not to shabby either especially Uma Thurman. She really plays up the bunny boiler super heroine role.

Is it worth watching? Yes. Is worth watching twice? Maybe not twice. That said it makes a great date movie or a fun thing to go watch in a group.
