Rapper David Banner is bringing an animated view of his native Mississippi to the small screen with his new Cartoon Network show THAT CROOK'D SIPP.

The series, which is the newest addition to the channel's Adult Swim line up, follows the Beauregards, a white family mentally stuck in the 1800s, while living in present day Mississippi.

Banner provides the voice of the show's main character Virgil, who offers his views on the Beauregards and the world as told "from the viewpoint of a young black progressive man in Mississippi,"

"He [Virgil] owns the hottest restaurants in the little town called Sweet Tea, Mississippi," the lyricist said. "He also has the most controversial group in the South called the Sweet Tea Monsters, and they will have a real album coming out."

THAT CROOK'D SIPP is the end result of a cartoon written by Banner's partner and Cartoon Network animator Nick Weidenfeld, that was based on the rapper's debut release Mississippi: The Album.

According to Banner, the new show offers a platform to express views on variety of subjects.

"There's a lot of things that need to be talked about in our community. When you're dealing with a lot of young black males, they're angry," the rapper explained. "If you can make people laugh and still get your point across, it's more effective that way. Although the cartoon is very funny, there's a lot of things we have the opportunity to talk about. Dave Chappelle opened the door and The Boondocks just kicked it off the hinges."

As for the cartoon's language and content, Banner isn't worried about criticism that may come from those who think it's inappropriate for children.

"People always try to put the responsibility of their children on everyone else," Banner said. "Children shouldn't be up that late anyway, but honestly, they probably need to watch my show and learn something. I live for controversy now because that's what America wants. As much as they point fingers at everybody else, America is the most violent, lustful country in the world."

For Banner, THAT CROOK'D SIPP is a not only a labor of love.

In addition to all of the musical production on the show, he hopes the cartoon will be a vehicle towards bigger things.

"I just want to build the David Banner brand," said the rapper. "Whether it's music, acting, or whatever, I want them to connect that with quality, greatness, and a message. It may not be the message you want to hear, but it's going to be a message in it."

Whether or not THAT CROOK'D SIPP remains a part of Adult Swim is up to viewers. Banner is optimistic as he cites a deeper reason for getting behind the show.

"The way the Hip-Hop community embraces the show will have a lot to do with the success. It's bigger than just me," Banner continued. "To me, it's about people from urban outlets having opportunities in the future to ink deals with the Cartoon Network. This is an opportunity we don't usually get; it's an opportunity to depict our own culture and control the images that come out. For me, this is bigger than just a cartoon.

THAT CROOK'D SIPP airs Sunday (May 13) at 12:15 a.m. EST on Cartoon Network.
