Already well-known and loved by Johannesburg residents for its beautiful authentic Tuscan architecture and design, Montecasino – Gauteng’s premier entertainment destination, is going the extra mile by bringing Italy to South Africa with the “L’Italia in Piazza” or “Italy on the Square” Italian Festival from 11 to 18 October.

The festival is a celebration of Italian culture through film, music, fashion, food, entertainment and technology, and it’s coming to Montecasino!

The line-up of events is as follows:

What: Italian Film Fest
Where: Nu Metro
When: 12 to 18 October.
Includes a film review by Adriano Pintaldi; a retrospective of Marcello Mastroianni and screening of contemporary films.

What: Concert of music by Maestro Stelvio Cipriani
Where: Montecasino Piazza
When: Wednesday, 14 October
Official public opening of the week-long festival, with a concert of popular film soundtracks by Stelvio Cipriani, accompanied by an orchestra of local musicians. Snippets from the films will be screened on the large outdoor screen

What: Italian Flag throwers from Asti
Where: Piazza and around complex
When: 14–18 October
Flag throwing with artists and drummers in Italian renaissance costume. Performances will take place daily, before every main event.

What: Cristiana Pegoraro in concert
Where: Montecasino Piazza
When: Thursday, 15 October
A classical music concert by the world-famous Italian pianist.

What: Fashion Show
Where: Montecasino Ballroom
When: Thursday, 15 October
Launch of Luxottica 2010 collections (Ray Ban, Oakley, Vogue, Chanel, Prada, Versace etc.) with the participation of young Italian South African designers.

What: 50 years of Italian music
Where: Montecasino Piazza
When: Friday, 16 October
Popular Italian hits from the last fifty years. A concert in the Piazza by The Trio directed by Maestro Severino.

What: Italjazz
Where: Montecasino Piazza
When: Saturday, 17 October
Italian jazz fusion concert, with the participation of nine extraordinary Italian musicians.

What: Italian Footprints in South Africa
Where: Montecasino Piazza
When: Sunday, 18 October
Book launch of ‘Italian Footprints in South Africa’, which illustrates the contribution the Italians have made to South Africa from 1688 to the present day.

Also featured in the jam-packed line-up is a luxury vehicle and motorbike display including Ferrari and Ducati, plus a Peroni Café stand with cooking demonstrations of Italian cuisine by Mastrantonio, and plenty of the best in Italian entertainment.
