Souls Of Mischief is an alternative hip-hop group hailing from Oakland, CA. They are also part of the hip-hop collective, Hieroglyphics. The Souls Of Mischief formed in 1991 and is composed of emcees A-Plus, Opio, Phesto, and Tajai. As a group, Souls of Mischief has released 4 critically acclaimed albums and have been certified Gold by the RIAA. Their newest release Montezumas Revenge will be coming on November 10th, via Hiero Imperium Records.

Oakland native Tajai began rhyming with future band member A-Plus at the early age of 8, while both were in elementary school. Following member Phesto was introduced to Tajai in junior high school where soon after the remaining member Opio was introduced to the group. The group was informally formed in high school before making their major label debut on Jive Records. Their first release is the critically acclaimed 93 ’til Infinity, a staple of classic 90’s hip-hop. The Source eventually named the album one of the Top 100 Rap Albums in 1998. The group released one more album on Jive, titled No Man’s Land before being released from the label.

In 1995, following their release from Jive, the group officially formed the alternative hip-hop collective Hieroglyphics at the urging of Del Tha Funkee Homosapien which consists of Del, Casual, Pep Love, Jaybiz, and producer Domino. Souls Of Mischief were part of the collective for both studio albums that were released by Hieroglyphics: 1998’s 3rd Eye Vision and 2003’s Full Circle. Since Jive, Souls Of Mischief have released two albums on The Hiero’s self-owned independent label, Hiero Imperium Records. 1999’s release Focus proved to be another solid album as well as 2000’s Trilogy: Conflict, Climax, Resolution.

Earlier this year Souls of Mischief released the song “Tour Stories” with production by Domino and Prince Paul. The song is taken from the upcoming album Montezuma’s Revenge. In addition to the song, Prince Paul will be heavily involved in production of their new album alongside Domino.
