Trek Life and Oddisee continue to tease fans with another mixtape preceding the release of Trek Life’s sophomore album, Everything Changed Nothing. The mixtape, West Coast Beats, includes a concoction of snippets of instrumentals from the upcoming album, exclusive Oddisee beats, the first single, “So Supreme”, and an exclusive Oddisee-produced Trek Life track called “Get In Touch”, found only on this mixtape.

Hip-hop hybrid group No Surrender, composed of Mr. Steeples, Seraphim, and Gnomad, set out to make what Seraphim calls “the direct opposite of what a typical hip-hop video might be,” for their first single “Godda Get It”. “In terms of art direction and visuals, I can’t think of anything in hip-hop like it,” notes Seraphim. “I’m definitely proud of that”. He’s not kidding; the video is one of a kind and expertly executed. The music video is trippy, witty, stylish and fun. It has enough blinking lights and powerful colors to give an epileptic the seizer of his life.

What makes DaVinci so dynamic is that he consistently establishes expectations and consistently breaks them afterward. While The Day The Turf Stood Still’s first single, “What You Finna Do”, painted a picture of gentrification affecting his neighborhood, The Fillmore, DaVinci’s second single, “Ben”, took a look at society’s infatuation with money; all with DaVinci’s block-influenced point of view.

With a critically acclaimed EP and a track licensed by media giant ESPN under his belt before the year hit its half-way mark, one might think Los Angeles emcee Trek Life might take a little downtime. Instead the stalwart rapper has chosen to increase the momentum. Recently announcing his upcoming LP Everything Changed Nothing, Trek Life is set to release a mixtape entitled Before Everything Changed prior to the album which launches later this month. The mix is blended by DJ Tommy Blak and hosted by Trek Life collaborator/producer J. Bizness.

Some of the world’s top artists will be providing a global mélange of sound at the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz joining an already impressive line-up at the country?s top jazz-travaganza.

Running from 26 to 28 August in Newtown, Johannesburg, the 2010 line-up features artists from America, Japan and Israel who will share billing with top performers from South Africa and the African Diaspora.

DaVinci, the Bay Area emcee, has been receiving incredible amounts of attention after delivering his critically acclaimed album, The Day The Turf Stood Still, and more recently being named one of the Bay’s best new rap talents on KMEL’s Freshmen 10 list. The rapper’s label, the quickly rising Sweetbreads Creative Collective just released a video (in conjunction with hip-hop site 24K Milkcrate) showcasing DaVinci’s recent trip to L.A., an eventful trek for the young emcee.
