Dj Kenzhero brings you Rattex, Pioneer Unit and Cape Towns flavour to welcome everybody and break in all the new comers to what Cape Town is really about.

Rattex has recently teamed up with Hipe and DJ Raiko to create an intense new show that features banging live production, flawless turntablism and, of course, Rattex’s unique vernacular lyricism.

Rattex is now at the forefront of the new school of proudly South African rappers who understand that Hip Hop, more than any other musical art form, is about addressing important issues and representing where you’re from. It is therefore not suprising that Rattex is one of the pioneers of the ‘Spaza’ movement, where lyrics are performed in a combination of isiXhosa, English and Cape Flats slang.

2010 was a big year for Rattex with the release of his critically acclaimed project, Streets, Raps & Us, as well as 2 European tours. Rah performed at massive festivals including Transmusicales (FR), Paleo Festival (CH), Electron Festival (CH), Fusion Festival (DE), B-Sides Festival (CH) and JazzParade (CH). Rattex’s music was also played on BBC 1Xtra in the UK by DJ Edu.

Rattex also spent 3 months in Switzerland as part of an Artist in Residency program with Pro Helvetia (the Swiss Arts Council). During his time there he collaborated extensively with criticall-acclaimed electro-dub band, Filewile and Pedro from 340ml.

2011 promises to be an even bigger year for Rattex with a US tour scheduled to include dates in New York, LA, Miami, Washington and Cleveland.

Hipe is one of the most prominent and sought-after producers in South Africa. After a period as the in-house producer at Unreleased Records, Hipe signed to Pioneer Unit Records in 2009. He has worked with the cream of South African hip hop including Driemanskap, Rattex, Ben Sharpa, Jaak, Imbube, Zubz, Young Nations, Teargas, Proverb, Nemza and Tumi, as well as a host of international artists such as John Robinson (US) and Mode9 (Nigeria).

Raiko is one of the most committed hip hop DJs in the game. He is currently the in-house DJ for Pioneer Unit Records and Kool Out Entertainment. He has been on multiple international tours with Ben Sharpa and performed at countless shows across South Africa. Raiko was featured in Vincent Moloi’s SABC 1 documentary, Are we Dancing to the Same Beat, and produced music for 13-part SABC 1 documentary, Trace Your Roots, including the music for the end credits.

Don’t be fooled into thinking that the show is only for hardcore hip hop heads, Rattex, Raiko and Hipe definitely know how to get a party started.
