Over the past two years, Funk Volume has firmly asserted itself as one of the most dominate forces in independent hip-hop. The label has amassed nearly 200 million YouTube views; Hopsin and Dizzy Wright earned back-to-back slots (2012 and 2013, respectively) on XXL’s coveted Freshmen cover; the label’s newest signee, Jarren Benton, recently released his label debut, My Grandmas Basement, debuting at #4 on iTune’s Hip-Hop Charts and a #4 slot on Billboard’s Heatseekers Albums chart to match.

As each of these artists, and the label, co-founded by Hopsin and FV CEO Dame Ritter, has earned greater acclaim, one of the longest standing members of the Funk Volume roster, SwizZz, who was the label’s second signee after Hopsin, continues, for many, to remain shrouded in mystery. While SwizZz continually shows up with scene-stealing verses on the label’s posse cuts, along with a guest spot here and there, he’s yet to release an official album.

It appears 2013 may be the year that finally changes – and in grand fashion. Today, SwizZz is releasing his new video, for the single “Zoom In.” The song, which SwizZz also produced, finds SwizZz showing off technical prowess, while also offering listeners a personal touch – a personal touch that the Funk Volume fans actually inspired. “I was inspired by the ‘Still Movin’ campaign that Funk Volume launched a few months back, by the stories of struggle and hardship that our fans shared,” says SwizZz. “I’m talking about some of my own obstacles in life that I had to hurdle – friendship and loyalty, and family pressure to pursue a career path that I didn’t want for myself.”

The video, shot and directed by frequent Funk Volume collaborator George Orozco of On Point Films. offers fans a straightforward, performance-driven look at SwizZz, a move that was purposeful for SwizZz to get his point across. “I wanted a simple setting with no distractions, so fans could focus on me and on the song,” notes SwizZz. “This is the first video I’ve dropped in a long time, so I wanted something raw.

Though the video isn’t yet officially tied to a new project, SwizZz hints at more to come. “For the fans, they can expect to get a better sense of who I am as a person and what I stand for,” says SwizZz of the new music he’s been working on. “And for those that are less familiar, they can expect to hear someone bring a completely new sound and a totally different perspective – raw, loony, aggressive, witty, vulgar, and conscious all in one.”
