Didier Awadi is the most prominent artist to have emerged from Africa’s Francophone Rap scene.

Previously part of the group Positive Black Soul (who performed at the Newtown Music Hall in May 2003), Awadi recorded a stack of acclaimed and accomplished albums, open to influences from Europe and the United States. This talented artist and entrepreneur is an example of a generation who have skilfully combined the wonders of modern technology with the traditional culture of their ancestors. Awadi has fed this powerful mix into his dynamic rap, creating a music based on genuine roots and consciousness-raising messages.

Awadi is returning to Southern Africa on a solo tour where he will perform in 13 countries in the framework of the "African Presidents" project. This project is about looking back at African history through the life of famous leaders, or the most important part of their life regarding their country and the continent. The idea is to make songs from their speeches, enabling an interactive dialogue with Rap artists, based on the question: "Where are all these dreams today?" On the South African leg of his tour, Awadi will collaborate with the local group Skwatta Kamp, witness of their time, to answer this question.
