He hails from Cookeville Tenessee, but he lives in Cape Town since 2000 and works with street children. American social worker Brown was inspired to write, record and produce an album with rap songs about his experiences with street children, after a film maker in the US shot a documentary about his work. He suggested that Brown use Hip Hop to deliver a message about what's really going on in the streets...
The album is soon to be released, with an EP already exclusively available at Brown's gigs in and around Cape Town, together with T-shirts and other memorabilia - all in an effort to raise funds for Brown's latest project, a boxing school in Kayelitsha's Town 2. Brown took his audience by storm during his first couple of gigs at Rafiki's and Zula Sound Bar last week. He had them singing along in no time and asking for encores. So if you're reday to listen to some real good music with a cause, support Brown and his band at these up and coming gigs. Performance dates, times and venues are: Friday, 14 October 2005 from 20h00 at Rafiki's, 13b Kloof Nek Road, Tamboerskloof Sunday, 23 October 2005 from 20h00 at Opium, 6 Dixon Street, de Waterkant Thursday, 27 October 2005 from 20h00 at Rafiki's, 13b Kloof Nek Road, Tamboerskloof Cover charge will be between R 15 and R 20. |
