KGB, the Cape Town based Hip Hop outfit consisting of married couple Neesie Nees and Nam and their record company Mothermix Records look back at a successful year 2002.

In July 2002 Mothermix Records released it's first album "The First Born", which was also KGB's debut album. Going an alternative route in distribution, Mothermix Records sold over 1 500 copies through Cape Town taxi drivers in the first six months of the release. With the national release of the album in co-operation with a major retailer in 2003, much can still be expected.

Apart from album sales "The First Born" boasts a successful track record, merely six months after it's release:

1. All single tracks that have been released off the album have charted on all radio stations, which playlisted them;
2. Top performers were "Get Money" (No 6), "Kwaito" (No 2) and "Open Your Eyes" (No 1);
3. "Kwaito" was also released on the SL Magazine CD compilation in December, reaching over 16 000 people as well as on www.samp3.com;
4. The album has been nominated "Best Hip Hop Album 2002";
5. "Open Your Eyes" has been nominated "Best Hip Hop Song 2002";
6. "Kwaito" has been voted 13th best song of 2002;
7. All major radio stations in South Africa playlisted KGB, including Y FM and Kaya FM;
8. The album has charted on No 18.
