Sometimes we need to get rowdy and just interview some of the fine celebrities we have in South Africa.  This time we got in touch with Radio 5 DJ Zuraida Jardine and drilled her with some of our questions.  Peep it!

I want to thank you for taking the time to speak to us. How are things?

All is well with me, oozing nicely into the new year...

How does it feel to be a household name in South Africa?

It's a dream come true!

How do you handle people recognising you everywhere you go and what was the weirdest thing a fan has done?

I love youngsters coming up to me, I try to be a good role model for teenagers, I'm aware that my radio platform allows me to make a difference, so I don't take that for granted. Sometimes I have boys wanting me to sign their butts, which is pretty weird...

You travelled extensively around the world before you started doing your thing here. Is this something you'd recommend young people to do when they leave school?

For Sure. I think that it is imperative that you try and travel after school, give yourself a GAP year to find out what it is you'd like to pursue as a career. Don't just jump into a course because your parents think it's best for you. You need to find out for yourself where your passions lie. Einstein says: "do something you love, and you'll never have to work a day in your life".

Since you on Radio and TV, it must be a very tiring thing, what do you do to relax?

I love what I do, I'm living my dreams. I try not to moan too much. If I need to relax, I'll take a nap, or go for a beauty treatment or to gym, all depends on my mood.

I wanted to ask this, are you allowed to play what you want to play on radio, or are the songs pre-selected by the station?

Our play list is set up by the music department, so as to ensure proper music management. We are however given choice songs during our show where you are allowed to play a personal track.

What was it like for you the first time you were live on air?

All I wanted to do was run to the toilet and wee, I was so nervous!

What is your ultimate goal?

I'd love to go overseas hopefully the USA and get some international experience in Media. I also look forward to being a mother someday in the not too distant future.

Which hip hop artists do you like listening to?

Missy Elliot, MS Dynamite, Eminem, Ja Rule

Which hip hop artist would u like to meet?

2 Pac. (I believe that he is still alive)

What angers you?

Rape, Child Abuse, Bush and cellulite.

What's the first thing that comes to mind when I say "George Bush"?

Cowboy

What's the first thing that comes to mind when I say "Milk Daddy"?

Chocolate

What was the last cd you bought yourself?

Buddha Bar

And your all time favourite movie?

Ghost

Whenever you appear on TV do you have friends or family recording it on their VCR's? And then do you watch it afterwards?

No, not anymore. But when I first started off in TV and Radio 7 years ago, I made sure everyone I knew was recording.

What's your favourite drink?

Honey Tea

Do radio deejays ever get sick? Have you ever been late for a radio show?

Of course we get sick, contrary to popular belief, we are human (some of us at least). Yes I have been late before, but it's not a habit.

Thanks so much for taking the time to talk to us! We wish you all the best for the year 2003!

You are welcome!
