This week we bringing you the micrAnots courtesy of our PE Hip Hop activist Rushay. They just released their latest offering "The Emperor and The Assassin". Peep it.
First I would like to give yall much respect for hooking up the interview with me. Well what's been happening with the Micranots lately? We have been finishing our latest LP, "The Emperor & The Assassin" coming out on Rhymesayers Ent. I just sent in the artwork on a couple days ago. It has been too long since we dropped an LP, so I have been working my ass off to complete this joint. Who does the Micranots consist of? My self Kool Akiem as the Emperor and I Self as the Assassin. Self MCs, I do all the production and whatnot. Could you give us a brief overview of the micranots birth and what the meaning is behind the name Micranots? We have been together for over ten years, but some times it seems longer. The name has several meanings. Check this one- MIC- a microphone is a transducer that gathers sound/wave energy like an eye. The opposite is RA, the Sun letting of light/wave energy. And between the two is NOTS, as in "naught" or traveling. In other words, the illest sound/light system. I hear you guys are from Atlanta hey got some peeps phoning me telling me all about yall shows over there what's up with the scene in Atlanta? Well Atlanta is an ill city for independent hip-hop, when it wants to be. It is one of the only cities I know that even hasIndependent Hip-Hop shows that will still bring out a whole lot of Black folks. Its not like that in most of the other cities. There is a whole lot of talent here, the main problem is that its mostly ultra-commercial labels that are checking for Atlanta artists, there are none to few Independent Hip-Hop labels here [now]. I'm going back to releasing records on my own label Mental Madness Wrecords. As far as I can recall you guys were on Subverse records are you's still down with Subverse? Hell no, you might as well be asking me if Im stupid or something. First off we were never "signed" to that label, we only licensed some records to them. We are a free and Independent crew. Our next project comes out on Rhymesayers Ent. as well as an old joint "Return of the Travallahs"1996. subverse doesnt like to pay artists their royalties. And you know who the law protects first when we have to take that kind of shit into our own hands. There was also talks of you guys doing a tour of South Africa what happened with that? You have to ask subverse, they couldnt get it to happen for whatever reason. Hey I would love to come do a tour of South Africa, and I'm sure to be there sooner if not later. One of my life goals is to travel across South Africa, then up the west coast, Angola, the Congo, Senegal, all the way to Morocco. Lets speak about your releases I heard of the album called Obelisk Movements anything before that? Yes, we have had several releases before that that are being made available again "Return of the Travallahs" and the "Farward EP" people can get there hands on, we might put out some other older material in time as well. Was just listening to MOVE by you guys damn thats a banger what would you say is your favorite track on the album? Hmm off that album my favorite changes, I think "Exodus" is my favorite right now. I think I hit the drums just right on that one. So what you guys heard about South Africa? I heard there is a lot of good Hip-Hop coming from SA, Im sorry to say that it just hasnt reached me. Thats one thing about the U.S., this place is not open to hardly anything from other countries, it just doesnt make it here very often. And I hear theres allot of rugged locations and whatnot. I keep a 40. Glock for my protection, I guess I cant bring that on the plane right, maybe we can take a ship? Can we speak about the new album that you guys told me about when is it dropping? The Emperor & the Assassin. Originally this joint was going to be titled "The Emperor & the Terrorist". But we changed the title, not because we are afraid of anything, or trying to be "politically correct". we just didnt want to to look like we were purposely trying to jump on a band wagon and draw attention to ourselves with a gimmick. We had the name way before 9-11, but I think in the end "The Emperor & the Assassin" fits us better anyway. But bringing 9-11 up, that was the most profound thing that Ive ever seen, I was actually living in Brooklyn when it happened, and watched it from the other side of the river. It was crazy. Whats in the future plans of the Micranots? This year we will tour the U.S. and Europe in support of the "Emperor & the Assassin", and if we could definitely SA.
