I'm thinking Shoalin now. Crazy futuristic ish that's what's included in the package of beat meastro Dj Krush. It seems as if the djing aspect of the art commonly refered to as hip hop is very and I mean very popular in the far south, who can forget that legendary track that featured Canadian singer Esthero? Man that ish is so smooth. I know it got ya more open than the Blackmoon track off the Enta Da Stage album. I just peeped out his brand new album called "The Message At The Depth". It got me in a state of insomnia after listening to it. The album goes into highs and brings it back down to the level of the equator. Dear Goddess I bring this breakbeat just for you as a offering. Ohm.
Man it's been awhile. U been ageing but as with the case of wine u just seem to be maturing with each new vine u dropping. Tell us whats been down with Krush man? After the production of my new record "Shinso-The Message At The Depth" was completed, I was touring Japan, Europe and the US. I also participated in the "JAG Project". It's what I do occasionally with other members such as DJ Spooky, DJ DISK, DJ Hide and others to raise awareness to many problems in the world by using through "Expression". Last October, our staff members visited Afganistan with monies collected from the event we've done called "Rebirth JAG". Man u be working fucking hard releasing a shitload of music in such a short time span what's a average day for you like? It's hard to tell what an "average" day is like for me because that would totally be different by what I work on at moments, like touring and making music in studio. But whatever I do, even just taking a stroll, could be an inspiration to my work. I havent been exposed to alot of hip hop from Japan. Heard some shit don't understand but the shit sounds fresh and innovative. Can u tell me whats the scene like. What it is that inspired u when u were younger cos I know u been there since the inception of hip hop. There are a lot of new and up and coming artists in Japanese hip-hop scene who are making new path in hip-hop. I think some of them can be accepted globally. There wasn't a Japanese hip-hop scene at all at the time I started. Literally, the pirate tape of the movie "Wild Style" was the only information of hip-hop that I had back then. I wore that tape out and it now has streaks and lines in it. I've seen that tape hundreds of times. Zen, that shit dropped in 2001 right? Man that's one of the illest shit that dropped in 2001, made everybody recognise Dj Krush. Would you say thats ya best work to date? I've got lots of great response to that album and I'm very happy about that. I'd say, all my albums are my best work at each time of my career. Your beats becoming more complexed that the Japanese writing style what is it that tickles ya senses? I'm very visual in my music making. I see a scene or story in my head and make music as if making asound track for that vision. It's also like drawing a picture-my instrumental tracks especially. I have control of the canvas, the paint, and thus the mood of the music. That's how I create my music. Lets talk about your new album "The Message At The Depth" when was it released, whats the crafting period been like, what can people expect when listening it? It was first released in Japan in Sept. 2002. Then it was released in Europe and US earlier this year. My emphasis in making this album was, no matter what the canvas was,I made sure it had the Krush sound. Even before making this album, I wanted to play the new stuff. "Zen" was more of the hearing CD. This new one will have people feeling the strong Krush vibe, making fans really listen. Track number 8 "Alepheua (truthspeaking)" nice shit man I like it when u coming with the chilled beat plus u bring out the best in the singer Angelina Esparza whose topic shows us how heartless man can be whats ya view on that track? Angelina is a new artist. I couldn't believe that she was an amateur at the time of the recording of this track. She's still a young 20 years old, it's exciting to anticipate what her future will bring her. As for the track, I will let each listener decide how to interpret it. Can u tell us what tools the doctor uses to operate on? I used computers for the first time in making of "Message At The Depth". I found it very convenient yet the sound is a bit weak. I like both analogue and digital music making. I know you got connections in Africa collaborating with percussionist from here how u find that mixture of sounds? I get to listen to music from around the world by travelling on tour or through other artists, etc. I was lucky enough to have a chance to work with Tunde Ayanyemi for the recording of my previous record "Zen". He's a great percussionist. I'd love to work with him again in the future and other great musicians from Africa. If any promoters wanna bring you out to Africa who can they get in contact with or would you even look at a offer to come do something out here? Please contact DJ Krush management Es U Es Corporation for booking. http://www.mmjp.or.jp/sus/krush/ In closing what would you say is your message at the end of this interview? In the society that we are living in today it's hard to tell the difference between what is the truth and what is not the truth. But it's not like I'm trying to fix it, I just wanted to dig deeper into this concept and think about it. Since (Zen) alot of things have happened, terrorist attacks, coporate corruption etc, making me think these things which flowed into the concept of the new album. So these songs are made with the depth of truth from each artist, which is what I want to enhance most about this album. Basically in the end one has to make their own decisions. Make and believe in your choices....who ever said that the things we see on t.v. are facts anyway? Interview By Rush |
