The first time I popped in this disc I was nodding my head like a pigeon walking through Grand Parade. I got in touch with Soul Plasma just the other day to ask him a couple of questions about his first solo release "Simply Soul" on the Pitch Control label. Expect to hear more from Soul as this powerful release explodes. Check it.
Hi Soul Plasma, can you start off by telling us who you are? Introduce yourself to the world. I am Soul Plasma, simply a genuine fella from the around the way, Who has love for all. And i just released a solo record so go and pick it up and get to know me better. You've just released your album "Simply Soul" on Pitch Control Records. This is a dope LP and I see that you surround yourself with dope people (Braille, Ohmega Watts etc). Are you in anyway affiliated to Syntax/Uprok? Only affiliation with Syntax is that they released ACTS 29, And Uprok no affiliation accept Plastic which is my potna real cool cat, and all also Gus and Sirroc from Syntax coo Peoples.. This album really has that x factor that helps to uplift a person. I remember the first time I heard the album I was going thru a thang and it changed my attitude immediately. Would it be correct to assume that you are a spiritual emcee? Yes I am spiritual, that's what helps me when dealing with what life throws at us. But for me its more that just being Spiritual. Its me having a connection with God, That really leads me and Guides me through all of this Chaos. And it is really dope that the album help to change you attitude. The power of music. You are from Portland right? Are you familiar with artists like Cool Nutz and Bullet? I was born in Seattle been here for about 7 years, I am familiar with Cool Nutz, Bullet I have heard of him, but not his stuff. How did you get involved with hip hop? What was it that prompted you? I grew up on it, that's all I listened to when I was younger, but it was mostly Gangsta Rap back then that I listened to. So I started rapping/free styling with my potnas in my neighborhood, and starting writing and here I is. But back then when I rhymed best believe I would kill you in each Rhyme.. So Gangsta:) When you did this album what did you want to achieve? I just wanted People to hear a different side of me than Acts29. And give a message that is uplifting like you said and to help change attitudes, especially about God. Because I feel people look at Religion and thinks that's an example of who God is. But that's a misconception. If love is not surrounding it "it aint God" and a lot of things we see in religion nowadays there is no love at all, just gimmicks and tricks. Are there any videos for this album? I did a video for the song "Ghetto" we did it in like 4 hours or something like that. Its cool, I was doing it for my Licensing Company. That's the only one. "So Far" Are you touring? Not right now, but I am working on that . How did you become involved with Pitch Control and tell us a bit about this label? Well Pitch Control is a Family/Foundation, Not even a Label as of now. The family/foundation consist of: ME, Braille, Ohmega, Othello, Kiv are engineer/producer. and few more are joining. We are a group of believers that do hip-hop music and are just there for each other, So People who are wondering About the Acts29 breakup, We are still together But its PITCH CONTROL. The Pitch Control Logo is just represent The family/foundation, Its not officially a label, but then again Let the Revolution Begin. Pitch Control Records we here baby... Na I'm buggin, well maybe not.... What's an average day for you like? I work at a facility where I once was locked up at, and my days there are kinda hectic, the kids are Good kids but are wild, and will cuss you out in a minute, refuse and every other thing to go against the rules, now I see how it was for the staff who were there when I was there, but after work it is Peaceful, go home to a wife and my newborn son. To think about it not always peaceful but fun. And a lot of writing consumes my day, and hitting that iron. Ya boy Soul got like 17'' biceps. What do you think of when someone says South Africa? The motherland, some where I need to be, if you every want me to come get at me lol..

What is the main lesson any independent artist needs to learn first? When you release a record, if you do the little things, you are better off than most independent artists. I learned that this weekend, talking to a friend of mine. Are you making a living off hip hop or do you have a day job? Work a day job, with at-risk youth. Broken home situations, homeless situations etc... When Soul Plasma wants to relax what does he do? I read, write, Hit the iron, chill with family, Sleep. and things of that nature. What is the biggest mistake you've made in your life? On the real when I denied who God was in my life, not that I would be punished, but because of what he has done for me as an individual, and how could I deny that? Where would you like to tour? Overseas! If people want to learn more about Soul Plasma what can they do? Where can they order the album? Check my site www.soulplasma.net or www.sphereofhiphop.com to order the album.
