Syntax Recording Artist

Your album has been well received by many and your style is quite
different and refreshing. What musical background do you have and how long have you been rapping?

I was raised up listening to...The Doors, Santana, Jimmy Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Chicago, and all the goods. Around 89 I heard the collaboration with Aerosmith and Run DMC and that blew my mind.
I immediately fell in love with the concept.

How is Christian Hip Hop being received in the USA?

That is an interesting question. I understand the question but to give you a good answer it would take an entire essay. "Christian hip hop" has been creating a little buzz lately but most of the people making the buzz view this totally different than the established "Christian Market." People that believe Christ is their Savior are Christians. Music can’t be "Christian." It can be written & produced by Christians and it can contain the perspectives of a Christian but the music itself isn’t Christian. You don’t have to be a Christian to relate or dig what I have to say but what I say may cause you to rethink your beliefs. The short answer to your question is…We are making noise here in the states but we plan on making a lot more noise over the next few years!

Is this your first album?

This is my first album with distribution... I’ve been haunting the Underground for a very long time. Syntax picked me up...and it’s been nice :)

How long did it take to do the album and who produced it?

This album was actually recorded in just short of 3 weeks. It was spread out over a couple months though. I’d come down to San Diego and stay with Sir Roc a few days at a time.
Besides 2 tracks, this album was solely produced, mastered and impregnated by Tim (Sir Rocdomz) Trudeau of Sackcloth Fashion.

Is RedCloud one person or a group?

RedCloud is one person (me)... when I do a live show; I have my band (Martyr) except when I’m booked and it doesn’t work out so that the band can come with me. By the different voice patterns & fluctuation I use, I see why you might think RedCloud maybe a crew.

Are there ever "real" emcee battles amongst Christian emcees?

I’m a battle cat who recently retired. Battling was awesome when I wasn’t saved... I almost made my living from Local battles and competitions...100 $ to 200$ a week. But.... it damages your testimony. How can you lead an emcee you just finished ripping to know Christ?... I don’t know how some others do it. I give up. I’m a cipher hog now. Maybe a "friendly" battle here or there. I’m still shaky on that...ask Mr. Tru. He and I have been discussing the pros and cons of battling lately and I think we are both more confused on the issue now then ever before. I love to battle but I just don’t know where I stand on it anymore. In a battle you are arrogant and you have to destroy your opponent by belittling them and making yourself out to be the greatest thing since the Internet. It is tough to be humble in that type of an environment.

Which Hip Hop artists influenced you?

KRS 1 influenced me, Digital Underground, Chub Rock, Freestyle Fellowship, Fu Shnickens, Beastie boys, LPG, Brainwash Projects, Blackalicious, X Clan, too many influences...and that’s just hip hop.

Tell us a bit about your new album.

This album is very Colorful. Every song is different and will stimulate different parts of your epidermis. It has Underground hip-hop, Reggae, Rock, Electronic and even some country influence all with in the context of a hip hop album. This album is "something for everyone to Love.*"

What are your plans for the future?

I plan on mastering "Scrabble". I have yet to find a worthy opponent. I might go so far as to have myself cryogenically frozen…err…Lojique is dope! Maybe I’ll be able to come and rock some shows in Africa…any takers?

Any last words?

Get out there and support us, me and the rest of the artists on Syntax. Dirt, Coleon, Fashion Expo and the projects that are dropping soon like Man Of War, Night Owls, Comunalien, Gibraan, Lojique, Return To Sender, Luke Geraty, Max One, Sackcloth Fashion, Sir Rocdomz and whatever else we have going.
