Shaheen from Prophets Of The City
Ed's Note: This interview was conducted about 2 years ago, but we thought we'd publish it for archival purposes. What can we expect from POC in the future? A. We busy with pre-production for our new album for our international release, so that's coming a little slow because we planning on doing a live album, just musicians no samples and at the same time doing a straight hip hop album as well. So research for the live, getting the proper musicians together and finding the right beats and stuff. So for the new album, that's why we busy at the moment. There's a couple of tours coming up and stuff like that as well. To me, Universal Souljaz was the best POC album, what do you think was a good POC album? I think it still has to be recorded for me because everything so far has been experimental probably except "Ghetto Code" coz it wasn't as experimental. We had to throw that album together in like... we had like 3rd of the quarter tracks completed that we done in London and we were going to just release an EP in South Africa with the 4 tracks then we decided okay...Universal Souljaz wasn't going to be released as an album. So we had about 2 weeks or less than 2 weeks to come up with another album. Programme beats, write lyrics, record and mix and everything. So it was a bietjie of a thing that one. I heard ya'll gonna tour with Spearhead? There's definately talk and talk with other crews and other groups. You know, it's gonna depend how far we are with recording of the new album or what other committments we have as well. If more important things come up, let's say Japan or whatever, then we would probably do that coz we have not been there yet or whatever. Many people have told me that you are the tightest emcee to come from Africa, so, will you be dropping some solo stuff? The first thing is, I emcee because I love hip hop, you know so statements like that put a lot of pressure on me coz I don't think I'm the tightest, I think I respect hip hop to not put crap out there. As far as the tightest I'm not. As soon as I feel that then I'd probably quit coz it would not be me, it would straight up my ego. You know just writing to impress kind of thing. but solo shit, there's a couple of people I'm talking to, there's gonna be some solo stuff coming out, but it won't be solo as in Shaheen album but with another crew, like Deon and BVK. Not the same concept though but uh..me with another crew. |
