With all eyes on the new year, 2004 promises to be extremely hectic for the entire Noc On Wood Records crew - inside and outside of Seattle. Nocturnal Rage set the pace with their spot as the house band on Premium Blend, which is mid-season right now on Comedy Central. Episodes air every Friday night at 10:00pm, and host D.L. Hughley has definitely been showing a lot of love to Noc Rage.
Noc On Wood released a mixtape this winter to showcase the newest talent on the label. Seattle Rain Vol 3 Mixtape: The Storm features Noc On Wood artists Pop (Atlanta), Gator (Seattle), Mad Ro (Boise), and Nocturnal Rage. All 11 tracks on the mixtape are original collaborations between the emcees. Four releases are planned for 2004, beginning with a sophomore album from Nocturnal Rage in April. The members of the group pride themselves on the diversity of their repertoire, and they are continually working with famed Stetsasonic emcee Daddy-O to tighten the sound of their band. Noc Rage is excited to take their television and live performance experience to the next level. Mad Ro will follow in May with their second album on the label - with a few changes in the look and vibe of the group. Their loyal fans will be happy with their professional consistency, while their revamped style and sound is certain to catch some new attention. Pop brings a wealth of experience to the table from his stints with Critique Records and Suave House, and he is sure to heat things up this summer with his June album release. Styled with strong Southern flavor and powerful lyrical presentation, Pop is the next solo emcee to watch in '04. Seattle mic-slayer Gator's album is slated for August, although he has steadily been writing and recording in preparation for his debut. He will have appearances alongside his Noc On Wood family over the next few months, and there will be more updates as things progress with his project. Additionally, the N.O.W. team has been hard at work the past couple of months on their new state-of-the-art recording studio in Seattle, set to open January 21st. While the Pacific Northwest has a reputation in the indie rock scene for recording excellence, there has been very little recognition for Hip Hop, R&B and related genres of music. Noc On Wood hopes to spark a movement in the music community that will bring artists from all over the country to Seattle.
