Parana Recording Artist Tunsi
We really enjoyed your 2 albums and were quite impressed that you do your own production as well. Where do you get your inspiration from? I get my inspiration from artists that create music for the art instead of for the money, This inspires me to try and produce original music. We read somewhere that you are involved in almost every aspect of HipHop. Would you consider yourself a jack of all trades? No, I would call myself a contributor to Hip Hop. Could you tell us how you got started in Hip Hop? Any emcees that influenced you? I used to break dance back in the days. And I pretty much like a lot of the older mcs (KRS, Rakim, etc). Your production is pretty unique, it has a sort of trademark sound to it. Firstly, do you produce first then write or the other way around? Secondly, who's production do you admire? It really doesnt matter how the song will be produced, depends on the vibe at the time. I admire a lot of different types of production but the ones that stand out are, Dre & Premier. If there was a song that you wish you wrote which one would it be? Still # 1 by KRS. From our radio shows many people have pointed out that you sound like a mix between Divine Styler and Pete Nice (3rd Bass). Have you heard that before? What do you make of that compliment. No one has ever told me that I sound like Divine Styler or Pete Nice. Ive been told that I sound a little like Method Man. I dont think I sound like anybody, but I will take that as a compliment. Not only are you, according to us, a very good producer, but you are equally good on the mic. Why do you think people don't take notice of underground artists like yourself? Is this a money thang? Have you been offered deals by other labels? I dont think I get attention because I believe most listeners are forced to like commercial artist by continuous radio play and music videos. When major labels are saturating the radio waves with the same subject matter, people like me are swallowed up by the politics of it all. It is definitely a money thing. Money keeps most artist focused on one thing,, more money, less originality. I have never been offered a record deal, labels would always try to advise me to change my music to something more marketable. Have you had any interesting battles lately that you would like to share with us?
I haven't had any battles.
How does it make you feel that while you are sleeping at night there are cats in South Africa bumping Ya Decision in their rides while listening to our radio show? Did you ever think thatyour music could reach people in Africa? Man, that is lovely, I never would have thought my music would be playing in Africa. To be honest I would prefer for it to get air play over there than in the USA. People in the USA dont care for talent or originality, only the record sales. What would you do if you were offered to come and perform in South Africa? What kind of show would we expect to see? I would love to go to Africa. You would expect to see just what you would expect to see and more from a Hip Hop artist, a good show. When is the next album coming out? I hope to have another album out in the winter of 2002. Which hip hop artist/s would you like to do a track with? I would like to do a track with Rakim, KRS, & PE Thank you very much for taking the time to talk to us. Any last words you'd like to share with us? Any shout outs? I would just like to thank Africas Gateway for all of your support and keep me in mind for performances in Africa.
