New York, NY- The legendary B-boy (breakdance) crew that helped to sustain the art form and popularize B-boying in the mainstream, will celebrate its 27th anniversary with four days of festivities from July 22nd-25th including a free concert, celebrity basketball game, a special Rock Steady Crew performance and, most notably, the invitation-only B-boy/Girl Battle which crowns the best breakdancers in the world. Throughout the early ‘80s, Crazy Legs and members Frosty Freeze, Ken Swift, and others championed the B-boy movement, gained the support of Hip Hop's godfather, Afrika Bambaataa and the Zulu Nation, and garnered national mainstream. Each year Rock Steady Crew President, Crazy Legs, hosts and organizes The Annual Rock Steady Anniversary. The event was originally started in 1991 to memorialize slain member Buck 4 and to celebrate Hip Hop culture. The annual celebration has become a monumental Hip Hop gathering, drawing over 20,000 attendees celebrating Hip Hop culture. The celebration is also an opportunity for some of the most influential and dynamic personalities in Hip Hop to unite. This year, The Rock Steady Crew is proud to announce performances by Hip Hop’s underground stars Tony Touch, Erick Sermon, Black Moon, The Beatnuts, Masta Ace, Wordsworth & Punchline, DJ Red Alert, Pumpkinhead, Casual, Domino, QN5 Music All Stars, Kuttin Kandi, Black Sheep, Freddy Foxx, Rahzel & DJ JS1, Thirstin Howell III, Z-Man, A Wolf, DJ Devious, Planet Asia, and more! For thirty years, B-boying has been an integral component of Hip Hop culture, the skate scene, and other dynamic subcultures. It has taken over the mainstream via top-selling artist videos, and has been incorporated into lifestyle brand campaigns. The 27th Anniversary will truly celebrate the 'cultural clash' of B-boy culture - as evident in the skate scene, alternative/indie rock scene and even in sports. The 27th Rock Steady Crew Anniversary was made possible through the sponsorship funds provided by Red Bull, Scion, Tribal Gear, Triple 5 Soul, Power 105, Backspin Productions, Mixwell, the National Hip Hop Political Convention, and Touch Entertainment Thursday July 22nd Benefit Basketball Game 11am-3pm @ The Cage (Corner of 4th St & 6th Ave in The West Village - Take the train to 4th) “Against The Grain” Battle $500 Prize.
