New York City is where hip-hop began and remained until 1989 when NWA represented the West with Straight Outta Compton. Then in 1992, Compton’s own Dr. Dre released his album The Chronic, which quickly became one of the biggest selling hip hop albums in history and led to Los Angeles replacing New York as the center for Hip Hop.
Working to continue to reinvent West Coast hip-hop is Los Angeles’ own Damion Young, aka Damizza. Music Producer, CEO of his empire Baby Ree Productions, and Senior producer of Artist Relations at Power 106 FM in Los Angeles, Damizza has not stopped short of his mission. Representing such artists as Damizza, Knoc-Turn’Al and Butch Cassidy, Baby Ree Entertainment/P3 Management is the home of West Coast hip hop rebirth. Damizza’s plan to form a West Coast coalition includes his internationally acclaimed Baby Ree Mix Tapes; Volume 2 is hosted by Pamela Anderson; Volume 3, hosted by various entertainers, is set to be released by the end of 2004. Full of influential artists, the Baby Ree Mix Tapes embrace first-class beats and lyrics that own up to their mastery. Los Angeles, which claims original rap icons such as Ice-T, N.W.A and Snoop Dogg, has long awaited its dues to rightfully be recognized in the growth and diversity of hip-hop across all borders. One man with one mission, Damizza is planning this reinvention perfectly and carefully with the help of his entourage, who are all working collectively for the same ambition. www.babyree.com www.p3la.com |
