Stoan Seate hails from the wonderful and sunny Mmabatho in the North West Province where his musical talent started showing at a very tender age. Noticing this, his extremely supportive mother did her best in harnessing the talent and making sure that her son does not end up on the streets but rather follows his heart and makes something of himself.
It was in the mid 1990’s that Stoan caught the eye of one of the pioneers and fathers of Kwaito Music, Thebe who immediately granted him the opportunity of joining his band as a back-up artist. Soon thereafter in 1996, seminal South African kwaito deejay and producer, Oscar, put together a four member project called Bongo Maffin which became an instant success within the South African music scene. Stoan brought his unique Tswana influenced rapping style to the project, which was a first in the S.A. music scene back then. Bongo Maffin became one of the most influential South African artists releasing five albums to date and selling well in excess of 400 000 copies cumulatively. The group became multi award winners instantly taking home 2 KORA awards for Best group or Duo and Best arrangement and a further 2 SAMA awards for Album of the year and Best duo or group. Stoan furthered his career in the entertainment industry by co-hosting a youth TV music magazine show, Castle Loud which became an instant hit with the South African youth scoring +- 3 million viewers weekly. On finishing that project, Stoan did not stop there. He was awarded another contract by the production company, Urban Brew, to co-host a music game show, Lilizela Mlilizeli on SABC 2 in 2004. Due to his love of music and his wishes to contribute positively to the South African music industry, Stoan registered and formed a new recording label, Stoan AiG under the Universal Music Stable in 2004. The Record label signed on their first act, Dogs of War, a four member hip hip, Kwaito group that has just released a debut album, Chenga Guluva. “The big picture behind the recording label is the whole approach to music as a whole” Adds Stoan. “Stoan Aig is formed to deliver high quality artists who deliver consistency in their performances on or off stage. The record label seeks to provide a product that is so well rounded, it becomes part of an urban lifestyle experience, always. We are here to give the world brands with substance” Stoan, as an artist has at the same time been working hard to kick start his solo career under the same recording label, Stoan Aig. He has recently finished his solo project, Tseladimatlapa, which is due for release in the middle of October under the Universal music stable. The album is a 12-track masterpiece with a variety of incredible mind blowing tracks, which Stoan co-produced and directed along with a number of influential top South African producers. “I can proudly say that this album elevated me from just being an artist to being a well rounded producer. There is nothing that went on to each track without my serious involvement, additions and influence”, says Stoan. “Making this album has been an incredible journey which I feel the audience will fall in love with and admire.” for more information, contact Boni Mthiyane @ Stoan Aig Music on 0721413599. |
