KRS-One Keep’s Right With New LP on July 13th, 2004

Knowledge Reigns Supreme Over Nearly Everyone… While a few key advocates have dedicated their lives to ensuring Hiphop’s growth, over the course of what now borders on two-decades, who has done more for the culture then KRS-One?

KRS-One is many things; Emcee, DJ, Producer, B-Boy, Author, Orator, Spiritualist, Father, Husband, Activist. To some he is known as “The Blastmaster,” others as “The God” and to most simply as “The Teacher”---and for good reason. KRS’ Temple Of Hiphop movement, which was founded in 2001 now includes a membership of over 30,000, includes offering standard courses on Hiphop’s nine elements, voter registration initiatives, community and youth outreach programs and Hiphop’s first officially drafted Declaration Of Peace.

In what is now a saturated market that caters to manufactured “stars” and predicated on radio programming (i.e., Payola), KRS-One instructs the Hiphop masses to Keep Right with his thirteenth LP--- yes, that’s right thirteenth LP! Sparked by the well-received lead-single, “Phucked,” Keep Right also finds KRS revisiting his obvious chemistry with Mad Lion on the reggae splashed “The I” and channeling the energy of his live show with call and response chants on the Soul Supreme produced “Let Em’ Have It.” But a KRS endeavor is not complete without some lessons and he continues to deliver them with Keep Right. With the current state of affairs throughout the world, KRS could not have picked a more appropriate time to update his classic “Illegal Business” and while “diamonds and oil” may have replaced “ganja and cocaine” on the government’s export list, there’s no disputing were “ready for spiritual and mental repair.” Likewise, with “Are You Ready For This” KRS continues to question the ethics of current Hiphop “leaders” as he laments ““when u find me you find light/and that’s all right/I don’t know about pimping/selling woman like retail/or turning coke into crack for resale/but I do know if we fail/in 2020 our children by the million will be jailed.”

Keep Right will also be packaged with a companion DVD piece, which includes rare and never seen footage of KRS on tour dating back over 20 years, a behind-the-scenes look at KRS in the studio and footage from last year’s inaugural “Hip-Hop Peace & Unity Festival” in Boston which he also headlined. In addition, it will be packaged with a limited edition enhanced CD-ROM containing and interview with Chuck D of Public Enemy, over 40 pages of his book The Gospel of Hiphop and an hour long lecture outlining the origin of Hiphop. In support of Keep Right, KRS will also once again be headlining Grit/Inebriated Rhythm’s second annual “Peace & Unity” Festival in Boston (July 16-17th).
