Funny, I'm an Adidas guy but my most comfy shoes are the Nike Presto's I wear almost every day.Darn shoes are getting worn down and I had them for almost 3 years.Now I'm looking to get another pair..........hopefully at the same ridiculously low price, cause Adidas just doesnt make shoes like those Presto's.I wonder why.Anyways, must say I still wanna get a pair of those old White with Black stripe Adidas Campus.Shell toes are ok too............but not for me.The only old schooler for me is the Campus.Just too expensive still, cause for that price I could get a Reebok insta-pump........which makes much more sense to me.Or even a Torsion.Still miss that old ZX-1000C's..........of the first Torsions to ever come out.White, Blue and Black.Cla**ic. 8)

OH SHEEEEETTT!!!! Kamikaze's.... It was a pair of the Kamikaze's wit the green that saw me be the third rated outside shooter in the SA National Schools Basketball league in the U-17 division in 1995... they was the luckiest sneaks I ever owned and I won them in trial by fire....
I remember it was a Saturday at Edgars in Adderly Street, it was the post-Chrismas clearout sales and shit was BANANAS.... people everywhere gettin rowdy, actually fightin over the cut price goods on the trestle tables strewn across every open inch of floor space. I NEEDED new kicks to ball in so I ditched my mom soon as we got in their and made way direct to the shoe section. After 30 mintues I was dejected as f*** cos ALL the good shit was gone, the frikkin vultures had picked the joint clean and the store had only opened an hour ago. There were some aiight sneaks but all in sizes too big or WAy too small.... THEN out of the corner of my eye I spied a single high top sneaker under a pile of mens boots in the corner of the table against the wall... I tried to unobtrusively sidle over to the sneaker just to check it out... hope rising in my chest as a furtive glance took in a coveted REEBOK insignia. I grabed it and clutched it under my t-shirt as I hsutled to a corner to spy my prize...... ALAS it was a SINGLE sneaker.. its partner and essential half lost in the impenetrable void of the sale table. I hit the deck searching.. willing the partner to my one flawless and beautiful "Shawn Kemp Kamikaze" to be secreted into a dark corner hidden fom the throngs of undeserving. With horror my eyes alighted on a rival, a youth a head taller than I already poised to thrust his foul hind paw into a white leather haven which the gods had surely bequethed to me.
In a flat panic, I tripped the (presumably) male Edgars emplyee staggering under the weight of twelve or so shoe boxes as he pa**ed me and sent him sprawling into the interloper... in the ensuing confusion I darted into the fray and pilfired the shoe which was rightfully mine and made a mad dash in the dirction of my mother in the bedding section.
I had just aught my breath at my mothers side when I was confronted by the young ruffian who incorrectly made claim on MY shoes. A brief exchange between mothers got heated when in heat of the moment I blurted (with calculated innocence) that they were only R350 and that I would pay the balance from my savings. The magnitude of the price hit the fools mother like a kick in the gut and she abruptly grabbed him by the scruff of the neck and hurtled into the distance. Little did he know how close he was to sneaker heaven, for had his mother lingered for a minute more, she would have seen my own mothers look of disbelief at the price to which I reacted with a "Oops sorry mom i know thats too expensive... but these are on sale and are only R200!!!!" and my most endearing puppy-dog grin. Those Kamikaze's served me well for two whole years b4 they fell apart adn the first game I played in them for my school I hit 30 points and 14 a**ists.
They were truly blessed.

i had them kamikaze's back in the day.. blak 'n whyt ones.....mi otha gal 'n i were hooked on b-ball so i used to rock those reeboks 'n grant hill fila's...bt i'm more loyal to street sneakers now chuckies 'n adidas do it for me....bt one gotz to own a pair of onitsukaz 'n skechers....planning to lace miself wit cushe sneaks as well, them sneakers are really comfortable...

i think the dopest sneaker arounnd has to be the ADDIDAS SHELL TOE SUPERSTAR. Tha is a sick sneaker from back in the day of MC Hammer. im just glad that addidas is still keep in the sneaker coming.

superstars are dope if u can get that premium ones.i've been put off by cheaper ones(not fakes tho!) without that clean strechty fat laces and they yellow too easily.you'll know what i mean when you see them.but im not an adidas kid tho.
give me nikes and jordans!i found my personal grails jordan xi's about 4yrs ago on sale for R950.that same shoe retails for $500 on the net!

I think my Gamedays are rotten, I might have to give them away.
I wore them for an entire weekend, while I was walking around in the rain. Forgot to pack extra shoes, so I had to stay in them for three days though they were wet. Now they smell horrible and I cant seem to get the smell out no matter what I do.

they are just a tad too busy for me. simple with variety in colour always works for me. you can then dress them up or down. flexible in terms of what to do with them. i tread carefully with patterns. i see them here and there. but not quite. im still on the look out for THAT one.
maybe i was harsh. its got flavour sham. take two and three and four. five. six. haha. i suppose i could rock it. but it wouldnt be my favourite one i dont think.
its just not a me type sneaker thats all. perhaps my choice would be considered slightly more on the feminine side.

well the answer to that is simple but the emotions involved are complex. Fact is there is no local manufacturer of footware that can compare price and quality wise in SA, you gotta go china, thailand or easter bloc like bulgaria. Sure you might be able to get good quality here but at volume and a good price 4get it. Our labour laws, hugely complex and contradictory in many respects as they are, are very good about dealing with large scale exploitation of workers so that earning $2/day shit dont cut it here.
Hell in china Foxconn, who make EVERYTHING (including all yo Apple iShit) just raised there minimum wages to like $7 - $12/day, the top end being lower management. We cant compete, and any serious brand that wants to make sustainable business needs to order volumes big enough to have comparative cost price to Nike et all (tween $15 - $22/pair) but you also need a market big enough to actually buy all those pairs and unfortunately South Africans as a whole got no time for local brands. That and local retailers generally dont wanna f***in know about local brands, they feel the risk is too high. So its all of our fault.

There might be a niche opportunity but as an entrepeneur myself, I don't see a niche sneaker brand surviving long ehough to thrive in SA at least, being no expert on business conditions in the rest of Africa, without considerable seed capital, like seriously considerable. Cos niche means small numbers, means high cost of production and therefore extremely high retail price to make a profit. So now you got a Jordan or Adidas et al at like a grand for a sick kick, and you got this niche local sneak, where for the same quality of construction, depth of design and technology its at least double or 2.5x the price. Thats a tough sell, you'd need to be able to swallow like 3 years at least of a hard loss and just write it off as brand building, before you could even look at break-even point.
In my view best option would be like doing niche local customs of the big brands and hopefully build enough of a following so you can go to one of the majors and try to push for a special custom range with your design. Even then its a long shot, unless you can GUARANTEE brand growth, and i mean business guarantee where you sign a contract and there are serious penalties if that guarantee isnt met. I haven't got anywhere near the capital to fund that effectively so good luck to whoever has the nuts big enough to try.

quick guide
1. Open the file in Adobe Photoshop CS1 or later.
(It will NOT work on versions prior to CS1)
2. Select the layer you want to color from the layer palette.
(Do NOT touch the bottom layer)
3. Choose the desired color from the colors palette.
4. Use the fill function to fill that part.
5. Once done, flatten the layers and save for web in jpg (at least 60 quality).
Useful Photoshop keyboard shortcuts:
Fill with Forground Color: Alt+Backspace (Mac: Alt+Delete)
Fill with Background Color: Shift+Backspace (Mac: Option+Delete)
